laurmurf
ED is going off to university in September (well she is if she passes her A levels ) and we want to send her off with a laptop. We're thinking Dell at the moment but would be glad to glean Omlet knowledge. Help?
Katie
Hello! I've had the same Dell laptop for about 3 years now, i'd say build quality is excellent and they do the collect and return guarantee for the first year which will be great for your daughter as if it does break they can pick it up from any location and fix it. Mines still looking pretty new after 2 years being bashed around at uni! I vote Dell!
bigmommasally
I got a Dell for my birthday last month and I love it OH did loads of research before he bought it and he felt this one had the best spec for the money - I think he paid around £450 for it from Currys Digital. Geoid
If you can, get a dell with Windows XP on it, not Vista because Vista doesn't work very well.
Cooks
I love my vista
Cinnamon
My girls both have Dell laptops (with Vista) & we have had no problems, apart from a couple of letters falling off a keyboard - but they sent a replacement keyboard in 2 days,so that was fine. We got them because A - they were recommended at PC World, & we HAD to get them there as we were returning 2 pants Acer ones B - They came in pink & blue
Geoid
If they don't sell them with XP get Vista Home Premium or above, Vista Home Basic is rubbish (IMHO)
laurmurf
Hey Fred, is there much difference between Intel Pentium dual core processors and Intel Core Duo processors (other than price)? Dell website charges more for the Studio 15 with the latter than the former: would us mere mortals notice a difference in how they operate and how 'future proof' they are? ps - Vista Home Premium it is! Geoid
Core 2 Duo is faster and newer.
Geoid
They have a good deal on Insprion 1545, it comes with 3GB ram, which is excellent, also comes in a range of colours.
Clash City Rocker
We use Dell D600 Latitude ? We've got 2 which we use for home and business as recommended by our "techie guy". They're a couple of years old and we've had no major problems.

Shirl
I had to replace my Dell after 3 years and in that time it had so many physical memory dumps it was untrue. They are no good for surfing in bed either because the vents are underneath and get blocked by the duvet. I've got a Toshiba now and it's much better. I agree about Vista though.
