My girls are limited to a fairly small freerange area and I was wondering if there would be any need to put some Stalosan down ? There must be a lot of poo in there although it's all getting scratched about and dug in so it's not obvious.

 

Does anyone else put Stalosan anywhere other than in the run?

Yep I sprinkle some of the stalosan in the girls free range area .

You can buy Stalosan on ebay not sure of any other places on line though , I luckily got some from my local poultry supplier who has started stocking it.

To use it you just sprinkle it in the area your chooks use, not much else to it really.

Have a look here for info . It's important to use something if your girls are contained in a fairly small area (like their run). It keeps smells down and dries things out too.

 

I sprinkle it around liberally in the run after a clean out (every 3 months or so).

 

It is quite expensive if you have to pay P&P but I bought an 8kg box almost 2 years ago and still have loads left.

I put it down where they scratch out of their run and out of their fencing as they have been in the one spot and its a bit smelly getting = sour and I intend to use lime also when i see my friendly farmer

I get mine from Countrywide farmers. I dont know if you have a branch near you. They do seem to cover most of the country.

 

I asked them to order it for me as they did not stock it rountinely. They were very helpful and it took about a week to arrive at the shop.

I use staldren, it's the same sort of thing. It's advertised for pigs but you can use it for a number of animals including chickens.

ask at your local equestrian store, mine doesn't stock it, but were happy to order it in. It worked out cheaper than the internet.

I use Stalosan in the run too, if I can't get hold of it, then I order Bio-Dri - same thing but comes in smaller tubs as well.
