cluckynikki
Hello all Love reading all the helpful advice on these pages. Now I have a question of my own. To my horror I have noticed little mushrooms/toadstools growing in my lawn. Have never had them before in the 9 years living here. Could there be a connection with my having my chooks? Have only had them for the past two months. The first crop of mushrooms I noticed have sprung where I don't really have the hens, but I have now noticed them on other sections of the grass where the hens have been. Are they safe for the girls to eat because I have now had to move them onto an area of grass where there are mushrooms? (I have three different areas of lawn I rotate the hens onto for two weeks on at a time). I would be interested to know if anyone else has the same problem. Hen Watch
In my lovely soggy clay soil I got mushrooms pre chickens and the same amount post chickens...... Chickens are still here to tell the tale over 2 years later, they are quite "savvy" and seem to know what to eat and what not to eat. wombatally
I use Hemcore as bedding and when I compost it there are thousands of mushies sprouting. Maybe if you use it they're eating it and dropping it elsewhere
Groovychook
I use Hemcore as bedding and when I compost it there are thousands of mushies sprouting. My composting aubiose is the same... my cat Bertie thinks they're a delicacy. I've watched him carefully nibbling them out of the pile
C&T
We laid some new turf down, and put some composted Hemcore underneath to give it a start in life. We also now have mushrooms all over that one bit of grass... I kept removing the mushrooms to begin with, and tried to keep the girls off that area. However, little houdini's that they are, they got onto that bit of grass, but they completely ignored the mushrooms.
