Alton Towers

Recommended Posts

We're going to stay in a B&B near Alton Towers for 3 nights next week and plan to spend 2 days in the park, so I'd very much appreciate advice on good places to eat that aren't too expensive and where we should visit on our other 2 days.

We are on a budget, hence we shall be using Persil vouchers to get bogof entry into the park and hoping to be cheeky and buy cheap tickets for the next day while we're there

it's not cheeky - I got my family in on Tesco vouchers and we were given the option of next day returns for £5, mind you it was in October.

We've stayed in YHA hostels nearby and ate in the hostels so it was cheap. The park is fairly expensive but not outrageously so. If you can find any vouchers to go to the water park, and you've got younger kids, then i would recommend it - it's fab but really expensive!

have a fantastic time!

Errrm my children are 23 and 15! The eldest one @ 25 is on her honeymoon at the moment.

After the stress and excitement of the wedding and the fact that our 23 yr old had spent 6 months in Australia and had to come home for the wedding we thought it would be nice to have a short family break before she starts her new job.

It's peeing down here too, I emptied the waterbutt on Sunday and it's filled up today

Thank you both for the advice, I'm sure we'll have a great time.

Alihodg went there yesterday on a school trip- he had trench foot when he came back

He said the queues for the rides & food were massive  but he had to leave at 4pm, so perhaps the park goes quieter then?

I've not been to AT for about 16 years.

Have a great time :D

We are thinking about taking the children sometime in the summer but I thought I might give them a ring and see if they have a quiet day. I suspect not because unlike theme parks in tourist areas they won't get a Saturday morning lull because they have accomodation on site.

DS went on a school trip a couple of weeks ago and he and his friends got a bit lost trying to cut across the garden area and wasted about an hour

My little sister is there today for her school reward trip. We live reasonably close so have been quite a few times over the years. My sister has never been on any of the big rides so she was really excited to be going so she could go on them now she is tall enough.

We always use Tesco vouchers for entry into the park, its so expensive otherwise.

I was looking on their website this morning for places that my sister could eat as she is fussy. There were a lot of kiosks selling hotdogs, panini's etc. Plus a couple of sit down restuarants. In the past i have always eaten at Pizza Hut or taken food with me.

I'm sure you will have a great time!

Are school goes there as a reward trip :D

We get there as soon as it opens and leave at 5:30pm... it is so much fun :D

I think getting there early does help quite a bit as the queues are much shorter!

I thought that you could but special 'Fast Lane' tickets? Basicaaly another lane while waiting but its never full as the fast lane things are about £8 each :!:

No wonder there's never a queue!

We also use tesco vouchers

Good Luck, hope you have fun :D

Thank you all for your posts, we had a fab time, the Riddings bed and breakfast was beautiful with all creature comforts, fab breakfasts and lovely views especially the Light Sussex, Bantams and sheep :D

The first day in Alton towers wasn't fab as it was absolutely packed so by 1.30pm we were still queueing for our second ride :( it got better about 4 ish when lots of the coaches left so we got on lots more rides as the queues were shorter.

Friday was good as there were a lot less people so we'd been on all of the big rides before 12, so when it started raining we went to the pizza & pasta buffet for lunch which was excellent value @ £7.95 for adults and £3.95 for children (my 15 yr old son got the child rate ) and included tasty pizza, pasta, salad, garlic bread and drinks so we filled ourselves up  Then went to the aquaruim afterwards to let our lunch go down before going back for more rides.

So for a cheap trip to Alton Towers, ours averaged out to £13.50 each per day! Get some 2 for 1 tickets from promotional Persil packs and buy tickets for the next day while you're in the park as that only worked out to £108 for 2 days for 4 adults (my son's 15 but adult rate is charged from age 12 )

Go to the pizza and pasta buffet for lunch & buy a Coca cola beaker when you arrive at the park for £6 as you can then get free refills for the rest of the day, we managed to get 2 days worth as they didn't bother to check our receipt

And incase you're wondering, yes we did get absolutely soaked and that was before we did the water rides
