This is, once again, Laurmurf's ED taking over the keyboard as a substitute omleteer!

 

Willow, our black mid-orpington (not full size, but not quite bantam), has been sitting on a clutch of speckled sussex eggs (slowly wittled down from 10 to 6) which were due to hatch tomorrow, but seeing as Babs's babies started hatching 2 days early i was ordered to be on chicken watch today.

 

Earlier this morning I was out saying hello to the girls when i heard cheeping coming from under willow! i tried to have a peek but because of the sheer volume of her feathers it was impossible to see anything and it was very hard to tell if the cheeps were coming from inside shells or not.

 

So i have been checking every hour or so throughout the morning and a little while ago i decided to have a fish around under Willow to see if there were any empty shells, and what did i find? 2!!!

 

There is lots of noise in the eglu and willow keeps chatting away to the babies under her

 

I have yet to see either of them, but later this afternoon i will have another check and attempt to get some pictures if possible.

 

I will keep you all notified on any progress and keep your fingers, toes and eyes crossed for a good hatch!

I have just seen 1 of the babies! thought i'd nip out with the camera just incase and when i opened the egg port there was a little face poking out from under Willow's frilly knickers!

 

Managed to take a few snaps which are just being put on photobucket as i type!

We've got a birthday chick

 

Lovely Willow has given ED, Shonagh, a birthday Ponyo for her 18th. Good girl, Willow! although she still looks startled at what's wriggling underneath her (i think she's going to take a while to adjust to motherhood).

 

so that's 4 now.... 2 to go and the suspense is killing us, especially as we're catching a train to London in a few hours for birthday celebrations. GET ON WITH IT, WILLOW!
