Broody Hybrid - does it work?

Recommended Posts

Hi

Well I thought it was the Orps that were meant to be broody but my Amber Star is currently glued to the nestbox like a big stroppy puffed up football. She has been this way for a full on 24hrs (except for forced toilet and meal break).

Has anyone successfully hatched with a broody hybrid?

Golf balls worked with Buffie until she scooped her "sisters" eggs underneath & smashed then all over her belly..................as you know Em we moved her after that little episode and the resultant bath & she's now happily latched onto the "babies-to-be" in the eglu after her second move since going broody :D(hatch) !

Good luck Snowball!!

The same thing happened with Theodore last week.

She was broody and rfusing to move, so I was thinking about giving her the cockerel chicks from the recent hatch, but the next day she wasn't interested so she never got her own babies :roll

Well guess what.....cheeky madam was up and free ranging when i got home  but before I had even finished my cup of tea she had gone back into the nestbox.

I have taken her out via pop hole and back into WIR three times now....she keeps going back to the nestbox

And Tasha...if she had any crockery near by i reckon she would be throwing it at me!

Broody cage me thinks!

Hi....our omlet chicken was broody in April and again 3 weeks ago.....we went for it ..got some fertilised eggs and on Sat they started hatching and we now have 6 gorgeous chicks...adorable. Pegasus their mum just sat on them constantly......they should have hatched today but were 2 days early.....to our surprise! Go for it.....she is looking after them and they all hide under her peeping out and wondering around at times. Not sure how to sex them.....so I suppose it is a waiting and observing game now. Mother Nature is a wonderful thing.
