tiggerlady Posted July 18, 2009 Share Posted July 18, 2009 I wonder if anyone has noticed any difference in Frontline these days not working quite as well as it used to? Is it a slightly changed formula now you can buy it from other sources than a vets,or perhaps its just getting a bit 'old hat' now and them jumpin' critturs are getting immune to it? You do however need to treat the house and bedding with a suitable spray to break the flea lifecyle. They go on to the pet to feed and then breeed in you house (forgive me if this is something that you already know). You do need to make sure that the weight of pet vs size of Frontline is correct as using a pack that is too small wont do half a job it will do no job at all. Some heavier cats may need the size for small dogs. It is also slightly less effective if the pet is inactice i.e large cats that don't move much. moochoo Posted July 18, 2009 Share Posted July 18, 2009 I had this problem with Frontline last Summer. one of my cats has a flea allergy so we keep her especially dosed up. We were told by the vet that some cats do react to it after regular use so that it's less effective. We've now switched to Stronghold which treats for some worms too. Gem_Seb Posted July 18, 2009 Share Posted July 18, 2009 Ive been told a few things, one is that there is a weaker strength sold over the counter where you couldnt buy it before, our local pets at home sell it for 12.99 yet our local chemist sell it for 16.99?? also a vet told me that animals are just becoming immune to it as it has been used so much and reccommend Advocat now instead.. i still use frontline but just make sure i buy it from my vets to be sure im getting the real thing! Just posting to agree with all this. You need a vets prescription to buy frontline combo, but can get the weaker frontline from anywhere. The standard Frontline Spot On (NOT Combo) is all exactly the same wherever you get it from (unless it is from Thailand or somewhere bizzare on eBay where is shouldn't be sold anyway). There is absolutely no difference whether you get it from the Vet or online. Anyone that sells it has to be specially registered and licensed with the VMD (Veterianary Medicines Directorate). They have to be a Vet, Phamacist or SQP (Suitably Qualified Person), if they are not, then they are selling it illegally. Those selling it legally buy it from the same veterinary wholesalers who supply UK vets. There is no weaker strength. This is something that is getting spread around but there is no truth in it. Advantage spot on is a prescription only medication, it is effective against fleas and larvae- the active ingredient has been released to Bob Martin who use it in their Bob Martin DOuble Strength Spot On - this is available without a prescription! Groovychook Posted July 22, 2009 Share Posted July 22, 2009 I've only just noticed this thread... interesting because my vet won't prescribe frontline 'spot on' any more because she can't guarantee that it will do the job.
