Patricia W
It happens to a Victoria Plum we have. But it's worse in the wet summers. But we still get a large crop - although we have to fight the wasps for them! So if there is a reason and something that can be done, I'd love to know. PS - when I first read this, I thought it was about PLUM ......

sjp
sounds like brown rot you need to bin the rotting fruit not in the compost unless you can burn them you should do the same with the leaves when they fall off in the autum. I don't think theres anything left on the market that you can spray with ther used to be a winter wash/tar wash again not sure it's still available I had a victoria with it few years ago end up cutting down it got that bad . the sap is down to insect damage you'll probably find a grub in the affected ones its to late to spray them now again don't know if thers anything left on the market to use nowadays hope this helps any fruit that has sap coming from it that doesn't rot is safe just cut it up just incase of grubs wash and eat or cook them same to waste them
chickencam
I found a couple like that on my plum tree today and removed them, the rest look ok so I am hoping that they will ripen ok. I love plums straight off the tree
Plum
1 can we spray and are they safe to eat Whatever you do don't eat plums it is very painful. You can spray them it helps stop them going brown especially in hot sun. 2 what can u make with unripe plums if anything With unripe plums you can make all sorts of things e.g. quilts so don't bin them 3 how do we avoid this problem in future thanks folks To avoid the problems in the future and stop plums going green just don't post threads saying Plum problem. Made me go green immediately. Thanks guys for the heart attack
Alis girls
i am sorry Plum - i had totally forgotten there was a forum member called plum I am sure you are not a problem - now just one question - and I dont know if you were joking - you said I could make "quilts" with unripe plums. i'm afraid I wasnt sure what you meant. Is this the continental variety. Visions of OH and myself under a pile of unripe plums flash past with the cat on top it would be like the pictures celebs do naked under a pile of fruit on second thoughts rather not go there. i have giggled so much about this thread. SJP thanks for tips - are you THE SJP - sex and the city?

Saronne
I had a similar problem with a plum TREE (just to avoid confusion ). I made some chutney with the brown/sappy ones. Warning: They will stain your fingers when you cut them up! Saronne x
