Falkor
Well done Buffie! your babies are very cute! Sha......will the little babes be able to manage the up and over of the litter tray?? Might need to FILL with bedding maybe??
Chook n Boo Mum
I had hoped to get a cardboard "windbreak" round the back of the eglu & remove the box before they hatched but that didn't happen as I didn't find any cardboard in time..I'll go out there when it stops raining & move them all onto the poo tray with windbreak etc in place. I thought it better to wait until the littlies had popped out & mum was up for a drink before I started furtling around in their nest! The hemcore in the litter tray would need changing anyway so any spilt yolk etc was removed wouldn't it? I took her some grapes just now & she devoured them like nothing on earth has ever been offered to her before Sha x

Chook n Boo Mum
No not yet, Buffie's just stood up for a rearranging session & the 2 pippers are sill there and the BTB....the 3 fluffy bufflings are getting fluffier and stronger...and Buffie let me pick one up too This one is sitting on DS's hands, and Buffie is looking very chilled with it all......I do think I need to go & buy her a larger house though, it's really too tight in there for her and the tiddlers and the food & drink containers....! Ooops resized the pic now!! Sha x
Falkor
Perfect excuse for a new !!!!
Chook n Boo Mum
I know...may just have to ring & ask after a recon again!!!! A cube would be perfect size-wise....DS did suggest turfing the batties back out of the & into the in the WIR...not sure how impressed they'd be but it would save a huge chunk of cash & waiting time........ Chook n Boo Mum
ooo you are such a bad influence Em...I rang & as I expected they don't have any recon cubes....but could sell me a BN cube with a recon run for about £40 saving.............nice try but I only want the cube anyway, so no new cube for me I think DH would want me to live in it if I had another one ! I'm still thinking Sha x
Falkor
OOOH! they didn`t have any recon runs when i called last week! That is a good idea...use the I am sure batties won`t mind for a little while

Chook n Boo Mum
I've had a check of the pipped ones and it would appear that they simply weren't strong enough to make it out of the shell...I wish I had checked them properly yesterday, then maybe we would have had 5 little Bufflings, but sadly we haven't...Mother Nature is a wise old bird & must have had her reasons. I'll candle the other one later, but Buffie has totally left the nest & it's cold so I assume she has taken the "unviable" decision. RIP little ones Sha x
smanners
Congratulations Sha on the 3 Sorry to hear of the 3 that didn't make it Hoping the bufflings are 3 girls Omlet phoned today re my new cube but I was at work Hoping that they can deliver soon as my are getting such big girls now Guess I'll have to wait til Monday now to find out
Chook n Boo Mum
Hope they phone on Monday to say Wednesday delivery then Sophie....wishful thinking huh Mind you that's quite efficient & quick on the phone call as they would have got back on Friday from the show . I rang yesterday to ask re recons as I had a panic about the space in the eglu for Buffie plus the bufflings plus a water & crumb feeder, but I've raised the level in the eglu by putting the roosting bars back in, covering with a sheet of cardboard & a thick layer of hemcore, which has raised the level to the top of the nesting box. I've put the food & water in that corner, so it's easier to remove if the water leaks. I've made steps using a slate on the base of the eglu and a mathematical tile outside the door & they scoot up & down very easily!! They seems to be happy enough in there last night, so the urge for a third cube has abated......... for now ! When I rang up I asked for a recon cube which they didn't have, but was offered a new cube with a recon run, which would save me about £40 - I bet it would still have the old front though!!!! I can't believe how those little can jump already, they flip themselves in & out of the dust bath....Buffie hasn't shown them how to DB yet, but they scoot around in there & try to eat it, and they managed the eglu doorway on the second morning when they accidentally fell out whilst mum was half concentrating on the other three......I still provided a step though, softy that I am!! ............I could watch them all day and the big chooks have noticed they are not the highest in my pecking order at the mo, and are less then impressed!! Sophie, I've put 3 feeders of crumb out & 3 water containers with ACV in, I also put a very expensive Le Creuset ramekin (DH's idea as they are heavy & won't be tipped over ) of chick grit out & sprinkled some grit into the dust bath. Should I have kept the number of feeding stations down so I can monitor the crumb that's being eaten or leave it with the number I have. They don't seem to be eating very much, but are looking very healthy, so I assume Buffie's getting them to feed enough...I have an egg from the big chooks this morning, which has been pecked, so I was going to lightly scramble that & put it in for B & , this would be ok wouldn't it? I've put a cage cup up at big chook level with some corn & Poultry spice in for Buffie to snack on. Crikey it's worse than feeding babies Sha x
Chook n Boo Mum
Update time...they are a week old now and I just wish I had their energy!!!! They had their first dustbath (to my knowledge) today and I was all overcome it was so adorable..... not even a chook gets "private time" in the bath!!! Sorry the screen is the wrong way round, but in my defence, I did have my hand in the run & was fielding the other chooks & dogs away from the entrance. This a a favourite viewing spot.... Chook n Boo Mum
The Bufflings are all fighting fit & healthy, but one of them gave me a scare this morning - it stuck its little head through the run and got stuck Fortunately I was in...15 minutes later & I'd have been out .... and the door was open so I heard the terrified shrieks from the stuck baby as soon as it started. I have corrugated lawn edging around the edge of the run & obviously tiddler decided to investigate some interesting bug in an outer corrugation & couldn't get it back....fingers crossed there are no ill effects I've pulled the lawn edging as straight as it will go now Oh the traumas of alternative motherhood Sha x
