FTGH: A pair of hands

Recommended Posts

Free to a good home: A good pair of hands :D

... well temporarily

As a lot of you may know I'd really like to be a vet, and a big part of the application process is Work Experience.

I already have quite a bit, but if there are any local Omleteers (Birmingham / West Midlands) who would like some animal based help for a few days I'd be happy to help :D

I've been phoning around and sending out letters, but had very few replies.

I don't mean cleaning out your eglu (sorry ), but any kennels, stables, farms etc that need a hand.

Thank you in advance

Thanks Sha :)

A local cow farm said no because of insurance :( - I understand theres a risk, but H&S gone mad?

Ah, I can see the problem. Their insurance probably covers over 18s, rather then over 16s I'm afraid-various places are like that and invariably they can't afford to change it.

Could you try at any local stables?

....and you're not cleaning Eglus??? :shameonu:

I don't have enough experience cleaning mine yet  The chicks are still in the brooder.

Any local animal sanctuaries that might be glad of a willing helper?

I've written letters to the donkey sanctuary in Sutton Park and to Birmingham Dogs Home :D

Good luck Lewis, I have 3 cats that need taking to the vet for their annual jabs if you're feeling brave enough...

If you wait 4 weeks you can bring them to 'my' vets :wink: We should be opening the small animal side then, then a while later opening the equine side

Hi - are there no stud farms about (horses) or race horse stables where you can help? Try contacting agricultural colleges, kennels, catteries, grooming parlours etc.

No, no race horses around here I don't think :( . The new vets has a stud farm and an AI unit for horses, so I'll get some exprience there :D

I'll try a groomers. Thanks :D

Meanwhile just think, when you get to vet school you'll be one of 20% of the male intake :D

It was the other way round in my day :(

I know , all the vets I know are men, but all the vet students I know are women.

Are you a vet then? 8)

The new vets opening would be the local one, and I have a job there but as I said, its not open for 4 weeks. I've emailed a few local vets and not had a reply and they don't seem to answer the phone! :?

I know the vet at the place where I have been before and am going to give him a call about going there, but its 45 minutes away so is hard to rely on my parents.

I had another no this week from a local animal sanctuary, but it won't put me off. Been to a stables to try and hand in a letter but there was no-one there so I've phoned and posted it.

Thanks for the help everyone :D
