Went to Cotswold Chickens and.....

Recommended Posts

Yesterday we went to Cotswold Chickens and came home with a Bluebelle (named Ghost by ED), a Goldline (named Maddy after Madness by DS) and an Amber Lee (named Sky by YD).

Then in the afternoon we went to Poultry Park in Newent and cam home with an Isa Brown (named Henrietta after our baby nephew Henry by OH) and a Columbian Blacktail (named Toffee by me in tribute to our much loved old cat who died in 2007 because she is a caramel colour and that gave me the idea).

We have not had too much argy bargy so far considering that little sky is really small and probably only about 14 weeks old whereas Toffee is about 20 weeks and looks close to laying. We didn't realise quite what a size difference there was until we came home with the bigger 2 in the afternoon. Our new WIR has lots of levels and perches so she has been able to move out of the way when told to by the bigger hens.

Toffee gave me an egg this morning  51g so pretty respectable in size, we don't know if this is her first or if she has been laying for a while. She is only about 20 weeks and there was an egg in the house when the guy at Poultry park caught her and it looked much the same.

Gorgeous pics,

did Cotswolds chickens have plenty left? We got coop delivered today, turfed it out already and the weekend is saved for chicken buying, we wanted a bluebelle, goldline and an amber lee- ideally wanted a Black rock but it is saying unavailable :(

They had loads of Amber Lees which looked the youngest, loads of White Stars, quite a few Goldlines and slightly fewer Bluebelles.

We have now had 3 eggs from our Columbian Blacktail - Toffee. I had one poached for lunch today, it had a bright orange yolk and tasted fantastic :D
