meezers
Up until a couple of months ago, my chooks were regular little stop outs, eeking out the last minute of daylight and shuffling up the ramp to bed as dusk fell. For the last couple of months they have been going to bed ridiculously early - today they all said goodnight at 7.45- there's lots of daylight left, so what's the idea ? anyone elses chooks going to bed early ? Redwing
I have three hens who are in bed by late afternoon at the latest bless them, I think they like to chat and eat chocolate before the others come to bed
meezers
I have three hens who are in bed by late afternoon at the latest bless them, I think they like to chat and eat chocolate before the others come to bed I have seen Bluebelle ( who's always been the 'earliest' bird ) go into the coop at 6pm, she shuffles around muttering for a while , then sticks her head out to see where the others are- they must tell her to stop being so stupid and come back out to play, as she always reappears for a couple of hours. simone
1 had put herself to bed so put the others in, tidied up ready for letting out in the morning, and just broke his broom sweeping it tidy
Space Chick
My oldies go to bed, and the "youngsters" stay up for a while longer enjoying having the run to themselves. After about 1/2 an hour, Rose comes out and rounds up the newbies Its very sweet and very funny.
sjp
all of mine were tucked up by 8.45 tonight for the first time since the clocks were altered for the big girls and since I've had the youngsters
Clare L
Mine are regular as clock work. 9.10 on a light evening and about 8.30 on a wet dark evening. Although the youngsters have been known to go for a nap about 5.
Griffin
They went to bed early last night, they'd had enough of the rain I guess. The ex-batts are always the first ones in, along with the babies, Pancake always is the first one in to her coop and the others follow in their own time. Robin, Egeltine and Poppy are the dirty stop outs that usually need encouraging in It's around 8.30pm at the moment.
welshnik
I was amused to see this post as and have been reluctant to bed before about 10pm but recently (last fortnight or so) it has been more like 9:15pm! We went away for the first time PC (post chickens) last weekend and our chickensitter watched them but had to climb over the garden gate as the front door seemed not to open!!!! Still, he managed to get them in and door closed. They both seemed awfully pleased to see us when we got back though - and bok bokked at us all evening. I let them out to freerange today and was not impressed at having to go back in but they have learnt now that if they behave when out, they go out more. Strange how they know it is usually hubby who lets them out and changes their grub and glub and it is normally me who gives them treats. God, do they come running!!!! I am thinking about a now - how soon did that thought happen??!! w
ali-s
Bubbles and Lily toddled off to the green Eglu at 8.15pm last night. The rescue girls were still out at 10pm and I had to pick each one up and take them to the red Eglu. It was getting quite dark at 10 o'clock but luckily I was still outside gardening. Rona
The pekin babies are in the eglu and run on the grass and sometimes they go to bed about tea-time but just for a nap and then get up again for another little play and then go back to bed when the light starts fading. Merlot goes off to bed when the light starts fading as well, but I always have to go and put Sparkle to bed as she insists on sleeping on the perch in the run. I have tried taking the perch down but then she sleeps on the roof of the house. They are in the WIR which is really secure so at this time of year she will probably be fine but I wouldn't want to leave her outside in the winter. They are in a wooden house which is at ground level so maybe when Angel and Dumpling are older and I put the eglu back in on a higher shelf she will be happier going 'upstairs' to bed.
