Here are my new girls (pics!)

Recommended Posts

Thanks for all your lovely comments. :D I have only had them a week and I am really enjoying having them. :D The nice weather has helped. I am hoping to get them used to being handled soon. How long should I wait before I try. I know they are still very new and are easily spooked at the moment. Any suggestions?

Do it now :D . The easiest way to get used to handling them (for you and them) is to do it at bedtime after they've gone to bed. They'll be drowsy and won't object so much to being picked up. We used to bring one at a time into the house for a cuddle on our laps  (on a towel  ) .

Bribery also works well. If you sit on the ground or on a bench in the garden with handfuls of corn or mealworms they'll soon learn that you = treats :) .

I've been handling my girls (although Poppy has a sore foot so I've had to :( ) - they are very cuddly and don't object at all :) .

I managed to hold Rita twice yesterday. She is my greediest - runs up to me and follows me around in case she misses a morsel. I've only had mine a week and had to SHOW them how lovely corn on the cob was yesterday.

Once they got corn bug it was easy - in behind, hands under and up. Only held her for a couple of minutes each time - but just getting her used to be handled.

I suspect where Rita leads, my others may follow - although Rita is not the boss - again it's a food thing.

My lowest in the pecking order (my lovely, and I suspect favourite, Joy) is very timid so she is going to be a challenge.
