Oh dear, I think they are not too impressed with me now!

Pepper is very put out:

Nutmeg is most dischuffed:

Clove is not on speaking terms any more:

Poor girls But for the sake of everyones red bottoms, it had to be done. I've started with the three likliest culprits, but have more in case others are also involved

I definitely recommend the circlip pliers. OH had some in his toolbox and they made it a one person job. Bits warmed with hot water and chicken wrapped firmly in a towel.

I got my bumper bits from Merrydale, they also sell beak rings (the smaller versions).

[Ms Tilytinkle]

OOoooh dear you will be out of favour! Still I'm sure you can persuade them otherwise once they see their treats coming. Bless well done hope it resolves the red bottom problems.

Can you not explain that they are the new 'bling' for chooks?

They don't look too impressed at all!

[Space Chick]

Well if they can't behave thats the penalty (at least thats what I told Polly yesterday when I was fitting hers )

[Cooks]

they do look a bit miffed..

[Ness3103]

aww bless them i'm waiting for my bumper bits to arrive, just hope i can manage to get them on

[Mutrix Farmers]

Oh Snowy you are clever. Have you thought about hiring yourself out as a travelling bumpa bit fitter?

I bought them to fit on Henrietta but chickened out (pardon the pun) and the situation resolved itself, eventually!!!!!

[Angels4]

Just recieved some bumper bits from Sarah to fit onto Coco Chanel, not sure I'll try to do it myself (maybe the vet will help), but I am concerned with how they get on with eating and drinking. Also what about treats are they still able to carry on?

[Space Chick]

Mark, if you have someone to help you it is fairly straight forward to fit them.

They can still have treats as normal, if they deserve them Lets face it they don't get a bumper bit for being well behaved

[Angels4]

Very true.....I never thought of that angle, but surley if the others are recieving treats Coco Chanel could have one or two maybe.

[Snowy]

They struggled to eat yesterday - lots of bewildered stabbing at the ground. Feeders were OK as they could bury their beaks and get a mouthful. But today they have mastered picking corn off the ground. Theres a bit of a knack to it, involving a sort of sideways action, but it does work!

[Egluntyne]

They soon get the hang of it.

The circlip pliers make the fitting of the bits a whole lot easier.

Definitely!! I faffed about for half an hour with poor Pepper before asking OH to go find his pliers for me. Then it took me 10 minutes to do all three! (and that was only because I couldn't catch them ) I think Pepper is still traumatised by the whole episode!
