Poor girls But for the sake of everyones red bottoms, it had to be done. I've started with the three likliest culprits, but have more in case others are also involved

 

I definitely recommend the circlip pliers. OH had some in his toolbox and they made it a one person job. Bits warmed with hot water and chicken wrapped firmly in a towel.

 

I got my bumper bits from Merrydale, they also sell beak rings (the smaller versions).

Oh Snowy you are clever. Have you thought about hiring yourself out as a travelling bumpa bit fitter?

 

I bought them to fit on Henrietta but chickened out (pardon the pun) and the situation resolved itself, eventually!!!!!

Just recieved some bumper bits from Sarah to fit onto Coco Chanel, not sure I'll try to do it myself (maybe the vet will help), but I am concerned with how they get on with eating and drinking. Also what about treats are they still able to carry on?

Mark, if you have someone to help you it is fairly straight forward to fit them.

 

They can still have treats as normal, if they deserve them Lets face it they don't get a bumper bit for being well behaved

They struggled to eat yesterday - lots of bewildered stabbing at the ground. Feeders were OK as they could bury their beaks and get a mouthful. But today they have mastered picking corn off the ground. Theres a bit of a knack to it, involving a sort of sideways action, but it does work!

Definitely!! I faffed about for half an hour with poor Pepper before asking OH to go find his pliers for me. Then it took me 10 minutes to do all three! (and that was only because I couldn't catch them ) I think Pepper is still traumatised by the whole episode!
