AJuff
I'm feeling rather pleased with myself as OH said tonight, "As much as I hate to admit it the grass where the hens are is lush green with no weeds in it. They can go back in the back garden if you like!" Yipee! The hens love the back garden more than the side garden!! They'll have a lovely day tomorrow!!! Happy chickens!
I want to know the secret! My hens make the lawnmower redundant when let out of their 'garden'! In their bit they're going for this year's mud bath look!

Falkor
That is great news Ajuff! I think the secret is to keep them moving. I moved my Omlet netting a few foot two weekends ago so that the girls have slightly less space. The patch that they HAD but now we have is the greenest lushest, weed free-est bit of the whole lawn! I will be moving the netting again this weekend to give them back the bit they lost and to give another bit a break
Ain't Nobody Here
That's great news but I don't know how you managed it . My girls just scratch the lawn up . Not that they ever get near it nowadays .
AJuff
I think the key is to move them off it when it starts looking a bit tired. Give it a week or two to fully recover then let them on it again. Seems to work a treat. In the back garden I shall have to put chicken wire round the raised bed and to protect the first four plants in the new border-to-be! Chook n Boo Mum
I'm feeling rather pleased with myself as OH said tonight, "As much as I hate to admit it the grass where the hens are is lush green with no weeds in it. They can go back in the back garden if you like!" My DH has also noticed this & tells anyone who cares to listen He wants them to go into the front garden & do their magic on that lawn, though I am less impressed with the idea unless he wants to chookproof the perimeter completely & ensure they can't get on the drive & wander out onto the very very busy road outside Sha x

Space Chick
Grass, who needs grass, over rated in my book. Anyone would prefer a mud bath that would make any hippo proud surely
