Redwing
Has anyone else tried this yet? I have been using it on and off when budget allows and have been impressed by the fact that the chickens tuck in but actually eat less overall and I have decided to go over to it full time after finding a local stockist who sells at good prices I have just returned with a load and am really impressed with the range The chick food looks and smells amazing, I could eat it myself! its like chick crumb mixed with small seeds, grains and alfalfa (they do a plain mix too) They also do tiny diddy chick pellets which cuts out a lot of the waste associated with crumb The layers pellets are a good size and smell 'clean' I bought some chicken treat which looks great and is miles cheaper than mealworms They do a farmyard mix that is pellets with grains mixed in and might go towards some people's desires to feed a more natural diet
xScrunchee
Sounds good but I cannot find a price for 1 sack of the layers pellets. Also read that the soy beans and other things are GM which also put me off a little Saying that-people have been saying that the hens eat less of it so it's pretty cost effective and they are looking really healthy, good egg shell quality etc.
Egluntyne
No suppliers near me.
Redwing
Sounds good but I cannot find a price for 1 sack of the layers pellets. Also read that the soy beans and other things are GM which also put me off a little I agree although they are honest about it which is good Saying that-people have been saying that the hens eat less of it so it's pretty cost effective and they are looking really healthy, good egg shell quality etc. Mine did eat less of it, the three chicks I bought up completely on it look amazing and gloosy compared to the ones who havent had it throughout. Falkor
Just to say that I have been feeding all my girls (layers and growers) Garvo for the last five weeks and they seem very happy on it! I have found: * less wastage of the mash as it is much chunkier than most of the other brands that I have tried. * although slightly more expensive than other brands the girls eat less so a sack lasts longer * egg shell quality of my rehomed bantams has improved massively * yolk colour in the rehomed gals has improved too * It is mid Novemeber and i still have two Orps laying eggs * the range is extensive and there is a feed for all occasions and also different versions of feed so you can choose the feed to suit you and your chooks * I have met a lovely lady along the way!!! The cats are now on a Garvo bcat biscuit diet and OH says I am making it up but I swear that Molly, our black long haired cat is even MORE glossy and has that green petrol in water sheen!!! Now if Garvo can sort a boyfriend feed I would be over the moon! Edited November 11, 2009 by Guest
ClaireG
I agree it's fab stuff I feed my hybrids and Vorwerks the 730 layers mash, they love it and i get a lot less wastage than with my previous feed (D&H). One of my Vorwerks has started laying this week My bantams are on the Alfamix Chick which smells so amazing i'm tempted to try it myself and i also use the treat which all of mine go mad for. stoice
The Garvo feeds website lists ACS/ Rosehill Hatchery in Essex. Not too far from you, if you're out that way, I think Quickcluck. (Although I'd never heard of the place so I don't know what they are like) ACS/ Rosehill Hatchery Creephedge Lane East Hanningfield Chelmsford Essex CM3 8BP Where do you get your fancy feeds from? sjp
I paid £10.55 in Chelthanem last Saturday the local supplier to me sells it for a tenner it's in the feed bin but theres still some of the last bag of haygates on top so it'll be next week before i get to it but I did notice that there was no dust in the bottom of the bag when i emptied it and it does smell a lot better than the other brands I've tried
quickcluck
You can get it in Manningtree from treats and eats! Is that far from you? I get mine from Benfleet......
bigmommasally
We got Garvo from Rosehill Hatchery a couple of weeks ago, around £9.10 Our girls don't seem to like it as much as Marriages though With Marriages they would eat every bit of their morning mash porridge (layers mash, sweetcorn, spinach, hot water) where as with the Garvo they leave about half of it. They are going through heavy moults at the mo so maybe that has something to do with it?
sjp
my understanding is that they do eat less Garvo part of the reason I want to try it
