Im soooo sad

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone Inever thought my first post would be so sad, I got four beautiful point of lay hens three weeks ago, and they have been fantastic, even though i asked the breeder to clip there wings for me they fly out for a roam round the garden before their allocated time(when i have my dog shut inside)when they feel like it, but i have always caught them and got the dog inside except for this afternoon. I did not see it happen but when i went to let them out there were only three, I have just found her under the hedge, my husband is putting a roof on the run as we speak, no mean task as the run is huge, I would like to get another hen as soon as possible as my existing hens are so young do you think I could pop a couple of new ones straight in or do you think I should seperate them for awhile hope to chat on a more happy note soon thanks for any help. Dor x

I'm so sorry your first post is bad news :( . A roof on your run sounds like a very good idea - to keep them in and foxes out :anxious: .

I'm not sure if 3 weeks is too long to introduce new girls without separating them  . You could maybe try putting the new girls in and watch carefully, with an alternative plan in place in case it gets nasty.

Aaah, what a shame :(

I agree with ANH-I would maybe put them together but watch very carefully. If it doesn't go well, make sure that you have somewhere to seperate the newbies and take the introductions slowly.

Hopefully you'll be ok because your girls are still young and pretty new themselves.

I am trying to introduce 2 new POL hens to my old 3 but it's not going well.

They have been kept seperate for 2 weeks but do free range together. (Well, sort of together. They stay at opposite ends of the garden)

Jasmine (old girl) has got a proper attitude problem and any time she gets near one of the new girls she attacks her and actually grabs her feathers and won't let go. I have to stand on guard with a loaded water pistol.

Anyway, last night I sprayed all of the hens with a diluted vinegar solution. Let the old girls go to bed as usual, a bit later popped one of the new girls into the Eglu and it all kicked off!!!

Poor Tallulah got beaten up so had to go back into her catbox!

I have done introductions in the past successfully but this time round is not going too well.

Think I might actually put Jasmine in the catbox at night instead. See how that goes.

Ooops-waffled a bit there

Sorry.

Wishing you the best of luck and hope that it all goes well.
