too old to lay?

Recommended Posts

Hello all just a couple of questions,

I have 3 ex bats all appear very healthy, however one of them has stopped laying for the past couple of months. After reading all the scare stories of horrible illnesses I have come to the conclusion that perhaps she is just too old to lay. She is healthy in every aspect, lovely red comb, bright eyes, clean tail feathers and very active. The only difference between her and hers sisters is that she has bright yellow feet. Is this something I should be concerned about?

Can't find anything about yellow feet on any forum.

Regards

Hedgehog

Hi Hedgehog,

For some reason I can't copy the link across right now directly from the Omlet thread as I can't find it on the search, so here's the link to the Omlet thread from Google - it relates to a chicken keeper with exactly the same as you describe and should put your mind at rest.

It's from 21 Sept 07 as was in the "Chicken Section" entitled "Yellow Feet & Legs".

The yellow feet will be caused by the fact that the pigments which go into the eggs are building up in her body as she has stopped laying.

It might be worth worming her and cutting back on all treats to see if it will jump start her again. If she is a hybrid, she may well, as you say, have gone through the henopause.
