**linky thing** I use bags of whole wheat from an Indian supermarket, but according to the blog author, rice works well too. I add a handful of dried lavender too as it smells so nice.

Just looked at that link and thought I would add that I use a pillow case end on the outer cover of mine - much easier to take it off to wash.

So when you make them, you make a wheat bag in any cotton fabric, then a cover in some more cotton fabric?

yes, crafty. 100% cotton fabric and 100% cotton to sew the bags. Other fabric might melt in the microwave

 

With the first one I made, I sewed up both ends, then realised that you would have to unpick it to wash the cover The next batch will be made with the pillow case end as Lesley mentioned.

 

Most wheat bags you buy are only one bag stitched up, without the lining.

Thanks for that. I have some nice gingham that would make some nice wheat bags. Would the wheat I get for my chickens from my brother in law (farmer) be ok to use? Just wondered as it is free!

Ooh, I didn't know you could use rice. We need a new one, as our current wheat bag is about 3 years old and smells a bit baked!

I cart my wheatbag around all year Christian - a bit like a grown-ups teddy - I needed to be able to wash the cover I have them cool in the summer and warm in the winter - and last night was the first night I have popped it in the m/wave for ages!
