Chiccadees3
Can someone please let me know the signs of a lice infection. My 3 exbatts are all doing really well and I dont think they have lice or mites - fingers crossed. It is not easy to check them over lot of wriggling going on with the chickens not lice! Parsley has slightly dirty vent feathers but she does have a habit of soiling them when she does a poo particularly after a lot of water! Feathers all growing back and eggs everyday - so they are happy hens!
Ain't Nobody Here
Get someone to help you check their bums . If one of you can get one under your arm, bum forward, the other can have a rummage about . You'll find little opaque brown beasties and/or clusters of concrete-hard eggs at the base of the feathers. Good luck!
Chiccadees3
Will give it a go! I am paranoid that they have everything at the moment although I have seen no evidence so should be happy that they are healthy! I bought their wooden house new and havent used any anti-mite or lice powders since we got them 3 months ago and they seem fine. Is it OK to continue like this or should I be putting mite and lice powder down? Also where do they pick up mites and lice from if they didnt have them before? Sorry for all the questions
The Dogmother
That's OK, no such thing as a daft question here. See this thread for details and advice.
Chiccadees3
Thanks just bought some diatoms powder to use. I clean them out every night - run and house - and they sleep in their nesting box and havent found anything in the straw. They scratch their heads quite often then so do we. I am now itching all over ready about these critters!
