kannie
Am I going crazy, or has the forum suddenly been invaded by little red doors? They weren't there before where they? And the santa hats have gone! And whats more, the little doors don't take me to the latest posts, they seem to just drop me in the middle of a thread... Is someone having a twiddle? Mrs Frugal
The little red doors should indicate a post that you've not read yet - "should" but it doesn't always work properly! Mine disappear before I've had chance to work out what's new and what's not. I don't see them as doors but as sheets of paper with a corner folded over - is that what you mean, Kannie? The santa hats have disappeared and I'm not sure how to get them back again. I could read up all the info on Google but I don't have time today. You said you weren't sure earlier today? If he has - then it is unfair - and unrealistic - that any more work should fall upon you. are there none of the current mods with some techy skills (you don't need a degree in computer science to tinker with bulletin boards - but you do need some knowledge) who could be "upgraded" to admins? Didn't Graham train anybody up before going? if not - then I am SURE there are several people (names come instantly to my mind) on this Forum already who could manage the board admin techy side in their sleep.. (those of you who could do it should maybe make yourselves known to kate) it's commonly used software - fairly friendly userface - phpBB - with a widespread and supportive community of its own: http://www.phpbb.com/ Please ask for help - don't take it on yourself - it will be to much and it will spoil your enjoyment of the board. We can live without the santa hats while someone else is found.... Phil
Mrs Frugal
Don't panic!! Goodness me, it's like an episode of Dad's Army !! I will be absolutely fine. I have James and his very capable brother to help me so there's no problem at all. They are busy doing other things at the moment so santa hats on the smileys are probably at the bottom of their "To do" list. If I can work out how to do it myself, I will but it's not the end of the world if we don't have them - we survived last year without any so I'm sure we can again this year. I managed admin on my own before and I can do it again .

If folks are desperate to be festive why not wrap a bit of tinsel round your screen and wear a Santa hat yourself!
Mrs Frugal
Well, there you go! You don't just have to have a festive look on the Omlet forum - it can go with you where ever you go with Emma's suggestion!! Fabbo, Em !
Guest
No panic, Kate - but you'll forgive me, I hope, if express some concern. I have no doubt that you could do it - but my question is whether you should do it. It has often been said how much work Graham has put in - I don't see why that should all land on your (voluntary) shoulders when there are several people here who could quite easily step into Graham's pants (sorry for the disturbing image!) - and share some of the burden. I'm sure you have better things to do than scour Google to find out how to do stuff on the techy side of the forum - especially when there might well be people here who would happily do it. teamwork is always a better way forward, isn't it? Mrs Frugal
True but I think it's up to James to decide who should do admin. At the moment, he's happy for me to continue with support from him and his brother which is fine by me. The forum needs no major overhauls as we've not long had an upgrade which seems to be working absolutely fine. The spam situation seems to be under control and we have a very dedicated team of moderators to help out where necessary - and they are a smashing group too. I don't think we need to panic unnecessarily when everything is running smoothly. If James feels that I need additional admin support, I'm sure he'll suggest it or keep an eye out for someone capable of taking over Graham's superpants . buffie
Oh I think Kate's got plenty of support in mods. I'm not very technical but have support pants ready and able. Kate was always capable and James etc will make sure she has what she needs and if I know Kate she'll ask anyway Nothing to worry about BBx

Yes this was what I meant! Maybe - judging by the way this thread has developed - they're really cans of worms!

Guest
I hope there's no can - or any worms seriously - is grd OK? it seems like a very sudden exit... and as he's been around for so long, a shame that there was no chance for folk to say thanks and goodbye... Guest
He's fine, Phil, but you know how things are, sometimes there just isn;t enough hours in the day..... He's popped on and seen everyones good wishes - no worms, no cans.

Guest
i think i may have missed something here, has grd left the forum????? am i asking a bit of a dodgy question here?? It seems so, Laura - the news has kind of dribbled out over a couple of threads. It's not a dodgy question to ask - grd had become part of the "furniture" of the Forum - he's been around for a long time - and has put a lot of time and effort into keeping the forum running smoothly - so it's a natural thing for you to ask when he suddenly disappears! GRD is a busy man - he works full-time, has a young family and is a very active (and accomplished) photographer.. it doesn't take too much imagination to understand that he probably has lots of stuff to be getting on with - there are only so many hours in the day! (as Shona says) Kate is taking over his Forum duties and the mods will support her. there's nothing dodgy or odd about your asking - for his own reasons (not wanting to make a fuss?) Graham chose to leave without any announcement or fanfare - he has peeped through the Forum window (Shona says) to see the messages of goodwill - and I'm sure he'll appreciate the fact that you have missed him. red
I can understand - I have phases when I find it really difficult to find the time - it takes so long to catch up on all the posts these days and that's without any admin responsibilities. I've only logged on today as an avoidance tactic because I'm supposed to be doing a written assignment for a course I'm doing for work If your peeping in GRD - you'll be missed along with your witty banter and as they say accross the water "Don't be a stranger!" Not sure if the do say that actually but it was suitably cheesy!
