Chucky Mama
I was speaking with the Veterinary team at Janssen today who make Flubenvet. In converation they told me the following that those of you who use the 2.5% may find interesting "1 Following correspondence with the VMD (Veterinary Medicines Directorate) regarding Flubenvet® 2.5% 240gm Medicated Premixture in relation to the current Veterinary Medicines Regulations, we can now only supply customers whose premises are approved as category 8 on the ‘Register of Approved Retailers Premises’. This means that we will not be supplying anyone who is not registered - this applies to wholesalers, merchants, pharmacies and veterinary practices. 2. Additionally it is a legal requirement that approved distributors who purchase Flubenvet® 2.5% 240gm Medicated Premixture, only sell the product to customers who are registered with the VMD to incorporate medicated premixes into feed. This basically means that you will no longer be able to get Flubenvet 2.5% - even Vets wont be able to get it unless they become specially registered and those that are registered will not be able to supply it to you unless you are registered with the VMD to mix it in feed. Therefore only Flubenvet 1% will be available for general sale (via a licensed retailer online, licensed agricultural merchant or a vet) (mods - was unsure whether to put this in Chickens or Clinic so feel free to move it as you see fit)

Redwing
I bet its no conincidence that its cheaper than the 1%
Hen Watch
Thanks for the info. What a shame, glad I've got my 2.5% tub which will last ages. I think this is all about money made by the manufacturer. The 2.5% strenght 240g tub is average £17 online. Whereas at 1% strenght much smaller 60g tub is about £12. So a quarter of the size for £12 .......

Chucky Mama
On this occasion the change has been instigated by the powers that be in the veterinary medicines regualtory body as far as I can tell. There are very strick rules regarding medicated feed of any kind especially bearing in mind that it is used on animals for human consumption. Speaking to them it would appear that this was something them were instructed to do to comply. They thankfully bought out the 1% specifically for out 'back yard' chooks
smokiechicken1969
hi can you just clarify if 1% is ok for garden chickens? or will this not address worms as effectively now. also does it mean the chooks will need worming more often? many thanks
Redwing
Its fine Smokie, it just that the 2.5 was a higher strength so you needed less powder to dose the food and as it was cheaper too it was very good value for money The 1% is intended for home use and comes in a pretty pot with a scoop so costs more but is absolutely ok and will do the job just as well

Janty
When does this come into force as I ordered some 2.5 via the internet last night and it went through fine? Jan
Chucky Mama
It's in the pipeline, may be a few weeks but quite soon as far as I can tell. I think that they are dotting the i's and crossing the t's at the moment. If your order was accepted I should think it will be fulfilled. Chucky Mama
Yes, I think anyone that wants some you need to get it pretty sharpish. Many of the suppliers and vets wont know about this yet.
