Wedding outfit hell

Recommended Posts

I ordered my wedding dress back in late Spring. And a chiffon wrap. They arrived in July, and I popped in to the shop to informally have a look and book a proper fitting. We discussed using the wrap to make some swishy bits for the front of the dress. We mooted getting a separate wrap as a wrap. I said I'd think about the second wrap and come in for a proper fitting, pinning and final decide on the changes to be made to the dress.

A couple of days later, 23 July, I phoned and ordered a wrap over the phone. I was told it would arrive in anything from 2-4 weeks, possibly six weeks. I said that was fine, and could they post a receipt out. They said yes.

I phoned a week or so later to chase the receipt and to see if there were any problems with the order. I phoned two or three times a week, sometimes leaving messages with staff, sometimes after the beep on their phone as it sounded like it might be an answerphone. I dropped them an email a couple of weeks ago as I'd still heard nothing.

Then I got a call in the week. A call full of attitude. Jordan-style attitude. They can't get me the wrap. I can have a satin one or a refund. Two weeks before my wedding, after seven weeks of chasing. It is the attitude I resent most. Things can go wrong, but the 'it's not my fault, take it or leave it, 'insert what you imagine' you' approach is not good in my book. Neither is the 'it's not my fault my staff don't give me messages' line. Or the 'we don't even have an answerphone' line.

I was due to have my fitting there and alterations done, but after the wrap fiasco with the mega attitude, I decided to go elsewhere for alterations. I went to collect the first wrap and dress today, and they tried to under-refund me for the wrap (I didn't have the receipt, remember) and then when I got my first wrap, they had already unpicked the seams without my consent, without a proper fitting, and said that's what I had said I wanted to do. So I now have an expensive piece of chiffon with bits of cotton hanging off it. :(

I said given I couldn't get a proper wrap from them, had they not thought that unpicking the only wrap I DID have without my consent was wrong? They then had a go at me for not cancelling my fitting appointment with them and wanting to take my dress away instead. I didn't cancel the fitting in case they spat on (or worse) my dress after their attitude on the phone.

They are called Renaissance Couture and they are in Maidstone in Kent. They do suit and outfit hire as well as selling wedding and bridesmaid outfits. They are dreadful.

Deisy's in Gillingham on the other hand are sorting out my dress and appear to be doing it with active joy.:dance::angel:

Just wanted to share.

Sorry to hear about all of this...some shops like that can be particularly pushy and nasty, I think my sister came across a few when she was finding a wedding dress at the beginning of the year-eventually buying it from a sale a shop had near to where her friend lived in London.

I'm glad you're getting it all sorted now though and have found a nice company to do it for you. They sound really good! :D

I know just how you feel.... my wedding dress, ordered in plenty of time, was received by the shop late. Went to try it on...and.... it was too short and too tight.

So the shop had to order another in the right size..... which took weeks.... it arrived about 5 days before the wedding, but after all the stress it was great. Sounds like the people altering your dress are doing a great job and I'm sure it'll turn out perfectly.

You will look back on all this in years to come, and laugh......honestly.

Humm not sure !

I got married over 20 yrs ago at a time when I was very slim  but still busty

House of Fraser decided the dress should be taken in at the waist to show off my tiny waist.

Very simple style of dress and very easy to alter. They completely messed it up .2 weeks before the wedding dress was unwearable and they were resistant to the idea they should replace it. I lost even more weight from worry. Fortunately I managed to persuade them to see the error of their ways and they replaced the dress just in time.

After 20 years+ I still don't find it amusing

Sorry didn't mean to worry you  just to show I really understand why you're worried. You definitely did the right thing taking your dress to someone else and she sounds very good.
