puddled duck

some advice please......

Recommended Posts

My two minature silver appleyards are now 5 months old. The drake (Puddles) is great but the female (Hamish, named before we discovered she was a girl!!) is being a bit of a nightmare! I know that ducks are more noisier than drakes but she can be quacking loudly which we dont mind but then she will start squawking and it is so loud!! she just continues and continues this squawking for ages at at time. It seems to have no pattern, it can be when they are in their run or free ranging in garden and at all times of the day. Does anyone have any advice? Is this common? She has not started laying yet, could she bit a bit hormonal?! Thanks for any replies.

Hi

I think you have summed it up really...usually quacking is an alert but she may just be practising. Ours are normally noisey more at mating time(spring its carnage round here). However since I have had the newbies they are making a racket! As soon as the other ducks appear it all starts up. Early in the morning

I put it down to everything being new, also if there is a fox around..like an alarm.

I am sure she will settle down. ~Good luck at least you have one of each

Hi i think it just depends on the duck i had a cherry valley salt and boy did she have a big mouth she would just stand on the edge of the pond thinking she was the boss and not shut up it didnt matter what you done it drove me crazy she died in june and i really miss her now and her mouth she was also very friendly which made up for the constant noise.
