AJuff
A friend of mine has made 60 jars of jam, pickles and marmalades to sell at our choir fundraising stall in the morning. Three sizes 1lb, 12oz and 8oz. What should I price them at??
redhotchick
Chutney(or do you mean pickles as in pickled onions, beetroots etc?) £1.20, 90p and 60p Jam/marmalade £1, 75p and 50p Pickles? What sort? I'm not sure? I just thought I'd throw in a suggestion to get people started! If you don't make your own jam would you be prepared to pay £1 for a jar of lovely home made jam? It is for fund raising afterall. Hope you make lots of money!
sparkysmum
I'd push it up a bit. £1.50 for the 1lb jar and so on. Good luck. Ax
BeckyBoo
Yes, don't start too low. Jam is fairly cheap to make but some of the pickles and chutneys have a lot of ingredients - picallili (sp?) has a lot in and if you've had to buy it in rather than beg or grown it it can be pricey. My jars are all reclaimed so nothings every a set price but for pickles and chutneys for a big jar I'd go for £1.50 or even £1.75. (I've sold really big jars for £2 before) jams I stick to around £1 or £1.50 if it's unusual or really big. If they look pretty that will help and if she had any half jars she can put them out as tasters, people like that! Good luck BeckyBoo
Cooks
I dont make my own, but thought I would add that I would think nothing of paying £2 upwards for a decent jar of jam. I especially like them if they have that ginham top for some strange reason. I get drawn to them....

I agree We paid £2.95 for a jar of Greengage Jam at Wroxham Barns last month - it was delish - wish we'd got more now. Definately put tasters out, if I taste something I feel compelled to buy it - unless of course it is absolutely revolting
Christian
My local garden centre charges £2.50 for a 8oz jar of marmalade. I think £2.25 for the small jars, £2.75 for the 12oz and £3 for the 1lb jars. It is for charity after all!
henriette
Testers definitely a great idea. Most people are suckers for homemade jams, pickles and chutneys, so I think they will pay the higher prices suggested. Am totally convinced that the whole lot will go very, very quickly! Good Luck! AJuff
Well we decided to sell for £2 a jar for the jams, marmalades and pickles and £2.50 for the whiskey marmalade. They sold out and we made £168 for choir funds. We are very pleased!!

AJuff
They are very pleased as the choir is going to Rome in October, following in the footsteps of St Wilfrid who founded Hexham Abbey. 130,000 years ago he visited Rome. It's the anniversary of his death on 12th October (our wedding anniversary!). The cost price is £450 per choir member and they are being asked for £250 so the rest has to be found by fundraising. I did take a photo of the stall on my phone so when I work out how to get pictures off the phone I'll post it. Meanwhile here's a picture of my cherub taken last year . . .
