Sneezing

Recommended Posts

Poor Ginger has been sneezing for 7 weeks now, we took her to the vets who gave here a course of anti-biotics but no change. We don't use hay only wood shavings.

She eats Ok but isn't laying yet. Any ideas why she sneezes and has a snotty nose?

Could she have missed an innoculation when younger?

Are they dust extracted wood shavings? It could be as simple as a dust allergy, particularly if the antibiotics haven't sorted it.

Commercial poultry are often vaccinated against some nasties, but most hobby/specialist breeders don't as they breed for resistence to disease. So lack of vaccination probably isn't the issue.

My girls are the same Hunter.

We've had them for a couple of months now.. and from the first few days we had them they've sneezed and you can see inside the eglu (on the walls) that they produce a clear liquid - not alot, but visable!!

We've tried Citricidal, garlic in their food, but to no avail. They are happy in themselves... laying eggs, eating, running around the garden etc so I haven't been too worried (perhaps I should be?!!?)

Mine live in a WIR that has a base of bark. I often wonder that when its warm and dry, it's the dust that gets up their nostrils from digging up the bark/soil. They don't seem to sneeze so much when they are free ranging on the grass!!

Hope this helps :D

* Spoke to the vet also, and she said that unless it's cloudy 'goop' they are sneezing, and if they appear off-colour then that's when I should bring them in.
