My hens seem to love the rain and are now going to bed soaking wet Does it do them any harm

No - they'll dry off overnight I find. Mine can shelter - but do they? NO... They went off to bed early though - must be something good on the telly.

PS if any of yours are white or have white on them - it'll be rather brown/black/grey.. that's the main consequence I find. Mine are Polands so have pure white hair do's - when it's sunny..

I understand Silkies can't repel the rain due to the feathering but others can take some.

Their bodies are warmer than ours, they will dry off overnight.

I must say I totally spoil my little Maude . . . she's rather lame, so if she gets caught in the rain she can't get to shelter very fast, and as she is prone to chest infections if she gets very wet I do bring her in and dry her with my hair dryer on the lowest setting rather than let her go to bed soaked. My OH thinks I'm daft but I'm sure it helps keep her healthy, and she seems to love the warm air
