Mel (& Paul)
Ah-ah! No casting nasturtiums about dodgy postmen - whatever the media try and say they are actually a good bunch of hard working men / women who do a jolly good job. There may be the odd rotten apple - but that's true in any walk of life. Sometimes post goes missing if it is wrongly addressed - we had an Easter card from a friend who had simply stopped writing the address mid way through so it was "3 Acacia Avenue, Lower Park..........." and it STILL got to us. cabbagepatch
sorry my son received a birthday card from my brother this year which had a £10 note in it when it was posted. the envelope had very obviously been opened and resealed. no money inside. no offence meant but a little upsetting

Lesley
We don't like him either - too many dealings with him - usually on behalf of others, but still
Mrs Frugal
He's just been asking me details of my earnings so he can squeeze me for pennies! I'm way under the tax threshold but they STILL need to know everything, don't they ! I don't like tax men!
Snowy
Know the feeling, and definitely not the postie as my tax bill also arrived this week - very good timing isn't it! (NOT )
Paola
OH used to work for a company and had a company car. The company informed the tax man that he had the car but they did not adjust his tax code accordingly We were landed with a 10k tax bill We were told that it is our job to make sure that you are on the right code
Linda
We were told that it is our job to make sure that you are on the right code But how on earth would you know if it is right or not? I was doing three part-time jobs for a while a few years ago, all for large organisations (the city council, Sainsbury's and Travelodge). I declared all my jobs on all the employment forms I filled in, because I wouldn't dream of doing anything else, but at the end of the tax year, the inland revenue decided I hadn't paid enough tax and set my next year's code to 60L. Ouch, that hurt! I would still have no idea at all whether my code is correct. I would like to be able to trust the 'experts' to get it right. Lesley
Don't worry - you're not alone. The government now have teams of specialist accountants checking all sorts of very obscure rulings - often very grey areas that they haven't yet tightened up on. When they find even a minor breach, their letters now say "you were negligent" They must be raking money in with the fines they are now imposing
