Double Yolkers...

Recommended Posts

Flo, one of our GNR lays double yolkers at least twice a week. Is that usual?

She hasn't been frightened or anything. She does tend to lay the occasional softie, and that takes her a day to get over it, but she is banging out these double yolkers on a regular basis.

Apart from them being absolutely delicious, will this do her any harm. She is 7 months old and getting more fluffy and lovely by the day (that bit wasn't necessary, but I just thought I would tell you).

Can anyone help??

Thanks.

I think it could be a genetic thing, one of mine lays doubles quite regularly too and shes fine. I did have a couple of triple yolkers early on. Not relevant, just thought id brag a bit

:shameonu: No-one likes a show off Sandie

Double yolkers are more common in younger chickens, so don't worry. Rose my white star laid some double yolkers when she started laying :D

big red lays 2 or 3 doubles about every couple of weeks. or a double and a softy or 2 in one day (again about every couple of weeks) after the the double and softy she takes 2 or 3 days to lay again. I'll just add shes laid 30+doubles since May

Thank you every body. This is a really useful thread.

My Rhode Island red hybrid (Sheldon GNR:D ) has recently been laying double yolkers every other day. I too was worried, but having read your comments, i will just continue to keep an eye on her, but enjoy the eggs at the same time.

Thank you Omleteers
