4m x 3m Omlet pen, cube, new auto door still boxed and coop light

My 2 newbies are about 21 weeks now and have been successfully merged with the oldies with no problems.

 

When they are ranging and I want them in, I call them and throw food into the run and the 3 oldies plus Mushu hurl themselves in as trained to do!!

 

Charlie, however, ignores the calling and carries on around the garden. This is frustrating but I have never encountered it before.

 

Do you guys have any idea whether this is wilful naughtiness, immaturity or stupidity and whether she will eventually learn??

Theres always one, isnt there She could be any of those things, but i would guess sooner or later she'll catch on that shes missing something and follow the others.

Has Charlie started to lay yet? My Grace was the same until she started laying, but now is a greedy madam and is often first through the door

We have the same problem, but its only started since we got the new girls Corn thrown in run - 5 old girls plus all 4 littlies hurtle in as if their lives were at stake... Pepper on the other hand (one of the original girls) seems to sulk at the newbies presence in HER run and therefore refuses to follw, till we chase her in (doesn't take much persuasion!)

Hmmm....no, she hasn't started laying yet, so hoping that will make her more compliant...really don't fancy chasing her round a cold, muddy garden on a regular basis!

Pox is the same, ans she isn't laying yet either.

 

A large fishing net might be worth a buy The first few times we caught her in that but now you can kind of guide them into the run by getting the net a few feet behind her.

Drusilla is being a minx at going in since Buffie returned to the flock & the Bufflings have started to freerange with the big girls...it's like she'd suddenly gone deaf ...though not all the time

Have to say I did wonder whether Charlie might be deaf.. or a bit "challenged" in the brain department - when she's let out she does a weird running with head down low thing as if chasing a very fast invisible snake around the garden

Well if Charlie is in any way related to an Orpie I'd say definitely "challenged"....I'm convinced my 4 came with one brain cell between them & broke it in the nestbox or dropped it through the roosting bars, never to be seen again !!!

 

Both Drusilla and Buffie are Orpies.................
