Scramble Poorly Again... Any Ideas??? (Passed Away)

Recommended Posts

Scramble was put to sleep this afternoon at 13:30.

After showing some improvement up until yesterday, this morning she had laid and couldn't even support her own weight, had lost a lot of weight, and had passed a lot of diarrhoea.

We took her to the Vet and she agreed it was the kindest thing to do.

We're not sure what actual cause of death was, but Poach seems fine and is as big a lump kin as ever.

We've cleaned the run and eglu from top to bottom, and changed the bedding, food, and water.

Thank you all for your help and time, she will be sorely missed.

UPDATED ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

[*]This morning she had a full-ish crop - could she have something stuck, or is this just because she doesn't want to eat due to illness but pecking and eating just not using the stored stuff in the crop?

[*]The Vet was frankly rude and in a hurry, so to be honest I neither like him nor trust him, and was pretty clueless so simply prescribed anti-biotics to be put in the water for 5 days. (he had never heard of AviPro and clearly wasn't interested in any information we wanted to give him) Which we are doing and she is drinking very well. (When she wasn't out of the Eglu this morning we were VERY worried at what we might find, but thankfully she was just sitting on the wood shavings, there was an egg but not sure who's)

[*]Also all treats stopped 2 days ago!

But to be honest no real sign of improvement, still very light, and looks weak and lethargic. maybe a little heavier than yesterday but that could be in our minds.

It's not sour crop as there is no odour. However could something be stuck?

Thanks all for your interest.

Thank you, her crop is soft and nowhere near as full as in the picture there's no particular bulge we could just feel in under her skin. But we have started massaging it, and I will try the olive oil, and see if we can't find some white maggots.

But we are watching her like a Hawk. Bless her, she probably feels quite harassed as wherever she is she can usually see us watching her lol

Agree with Egluntyne, I'd treat for worms with Flubenvet when she's finished antibiotics. They do have pretty wet stools if they eat a lot of fruit.

May be worth checking out their run area for poisonous plants as well. Hope she picks up soon. :D

We've got some Flubenvet on the way, but while she is still VERY underweight and poorly, it's absolutely tipping it down today so we have brought her inside and used the hair-dryer on her, but she is still eating and drinking lots of water, not sure on the diarrhoea situation as the rain has washed it away.

It's not an impacted crop as the food has gone from it and is replaced by water and bits of grain. We just hope that it's something she's eaten or a residual infection from the Bloody Egg, so that the anti-biotics and or the pro-biotic mix with the weetabix and the milk will strengthen her up, she has a little more energy today and a little more weight to her, and some colour has returned to her comb.

The trouble is Sal and I have a trip planned on Monday to Paris for 5 days, and we're having a friend look after them, so we really want to try and get her better before we go, every day shows a little improvement.

Some noise and foot strength and resistance has returned (I think she layed yesterday and it really drained her) She usually avoids humans but once you've got her and picked her up she loves it, but normally as I say she runs away prior to catching her, but when she's ill we can just scoop her up without issue. she also has preened herself today which is good.

So apart from the anti-biotics / pro-biotic AviPro / milk and weetabix / citricidal in the water, and regular food, what more can we do? Is there anything else we could give her to give her vitality? Could chicken spice help or would that make it worse?

Oh I'm so sorry. It's very hard. But you did your best for her. x
