Joojoo Posted October 12, 2009 Share Posted October 12, 2009 Hi DS and I are planning a few days away in London at the end of October and are looking for a nice hotel or B&B in the Marylebone area. It doesn't have to be 5 star luxury but somewhere nice, comfortable (will be doing loads of walking so comfy bed vital) and clean. Lesley Posted October 13, 2009 Share Posted October 13, 2009 We always stay at the Premier at County Hall if we stay in London for a couple of days. (I think it is Premier? - used to be TravelInn?) It is right by the London Eye, has a reasonable restaurant, easy access to trains and tube, open top bus route, river boats, etc. http://www.premierinn.com/pti/hotelInformation.do?hotelId=23881 We took a taxi from Marylebone to the London Eye last time we went for the day - I don't think it was too expensive...... OH and I occasionaly pop down to London for a gig or just a change for a few days and we now always stay in a Prem Inn. I like them as you know what you are getting, clean and reasonably priced. Joojoo Posted October 13, 2009 Author Share Posted October 13, 2009 That's brilliant thanks for the info To be honest it doesn't have to be Marylebone so long as I don't have to drag another suitcase on too many tubes to mention again - last time we were initially going into Euston so I booked at the Ibis next door then the train service changed so that it went into Marylebone. It was a flipping nightmare. I lost count of how many tubes we had to get from Euston to Marylebone as there wasn't a direct one. Trying to lug a suitcase up and down stairs and escalators halfway across London was an absolute nightmare!! Guest Posted October 14, 2009 Share Posted October 14, 2009 I stayed at Oldham premier inn a couple of weeks ago and was so impressed..soft beds /modern bathroom/spotless ..and a big poster of Lenny Henry in Reception...great value and couldnt fault it at all..we stayed at County Hall opp big ben etcit has a spa and swim pool ?/ Think its a marriott??not sure though. Let us know what you decide indie Well that's it I've got to go there now haven't I I put a search in on google for pics of County Hall and I think there is a Marriott and a Premier Inn within the building (unless I'm missing something ). I'll probably try and book it later so I'll let you all know what I decide. Getting quite excited about it now. Lesley Posted October 14, 2009 Share Posted October 14, 2009 The Marriot has the front and one side - the Premier has the other side and the back......of the same building. There is a vast difference in the prices though. Some of the Premier rooms overlokk the central bin areas and can be a bit noisy - best to check-in as soon as possible and ask for a better room if you don't like the one you are allocated. Out of towners often try to use just the tube to get around, but it's sometimes easier, if you have distance and head-map knowledge, to use a mix and match approach to bus/rail/tube. In Zone 1, buses can sometimes be better than all the stair/crowd faffing in the tube. Euston to Marylebone is best done on the 18 bus. Takes 20 mins tops, and it's all on the flat. It's sort of the same road you see, from Marylebone right to King's Cross. Just a really long road. The tubes on that road are Marylebone, Regents Park, Gt Portland Street, Warren Street, Euston Square, Euston, Kings Cross. If that helps anyone who travels those areas. Warren Street is a good place to change as there are no stairs from the Victoria line to street level, and not too many from Northern Line to street level. If you call 020 7222 1234 (London travel info 24/7) they will tell you the best route for travelling - least stairs/quickest etc. V handy number to have. missuscluck Posted October 19, 2009 Share Posted October 19, 2009 Hello. Fresh back from London! Stayed at the Jurys Inn Islington. Hotel very nice. Staff friendly and helpfull and the breakfast was good. Didnt get to the centre of town so I couldnt tell you how far it is to get to anything. Got the train to Euston then got straght into a taxi which was about a fiver I think to the door so no problem getting there if you want to avoid the tube with cases. No problem reccommending this hotel. Also noticed on my way back to the station next to Kings Cross station is a Premier inn and a Novotel.
