Ran into my next door neighbour & explained all the noise and banging that was going on in my garden at the moment as I cut back,turn over and generally prepare for hens in Spring. She asked what was going on the concrete plinth that currently has a kids play house on it. "I was thinking of a couple of hens" I said tentatively. "Oh how exciting!" she said and went on to ask if I would buy one for her to keep with mine and offered to look after them when I went away,and provide others to do it should our holidays coincide. I hugged her and ran into the house to tell OH [whose main objection had been what to do when on holiday]. He looked heavenward - admitting defeat at last -as the children and I squeeled and danced about.

There is no stopping it now...I have ordered a Green Go and made an arrangement to see a local breeder. Avaries4u is my next call!!!

What a lovely neighbour! I have to say mine are lovely too - they lean over the wall to talk to the girls and they tell me what they've been up to while I'm at work! I'm looking forward to giving them some eggs - if they ever lay any!

Great news, and what a fantastic arrangement for you both - built-in chicken care for holidays and so on. It's nice to hear a good neighbour story, must say mine have been very good although they don't do chicken-care. What a lovely neighbour.

I often work with the mum of Mrs Next Door & she throws the odd "you have enough dogs/chickens" comment into the conversation.....neighbours have never spoken to us though
