sallyj
Tomorrow I have the famous Tony from Aviaries4u arriving to deliver a WIR. It will be 12 x 9 feet and I am having the cube inside the run with extra little doors to remove the eggs and clean the poo trays. My OH wants to put it together himself as he is very practical. I can't wait to see it up, but my OH has to finish putting up a greenhouse first.

sallyj
Tony has just been and delivered the WIR . My husband is hopefully going to put it up tomorrow so at the moment it is in pieces leaning up against the gagrage door. My first reaction was what a lovely colour wood It is alot darker than I was expecting and looks great. Tony was very helpful and is going to email the instructions to me tonight. It comes with all the differentsized screws and even pre-drilled holes
troyca
I'll be interested to hear if your OH puts it up with ease as I will probably end up doing it-just to prove to OH [also known as MR Grumpy re chicken project ] that I don't need his help-although I'll probably borrow his power drill!! Am trying to get hold of Tony to organise WIR. What size did you go for?
sallyj
My run will be 12x9x6 feet and I have 4 chickens for now

Olly
OOh congratulations! I'm waiting eagerly for a delivery date, some time in the next four weeks or so I hope. Look forward to seeing pics of yours when it is put together.
bellekatz
Ours arrived from Tony on Monday so guess what OH and I are doing tomorrow morning???
sallyj
At 8.30am we started putting up the run frame first and it was very straight forward and only took about 50 minutes. We (I mean OH) is now doing the roof which is more tricky. The instructions are difficult to follow if you haven't done it before. I think once OH starts screwing on the plastic sheets the rest will be easier. You really do need an electric screwdriver so if you don't have one, borrow one! It seems to be very well made but I'm disappointed that the small free range door for the girls is inward opening with the bolt on the inside so OH is going to change it around. The big door for me is inward opening which is what I ordered to help stop escapees. I'd better make some more coffee and biscuits for OH
troyca
Sounds encouraging. You know how we love pictures!! I have ordered mine from Tony today so should be putting it up sometime in November!! OH has 1st week in December off so may be embarrassed into helping me put it up! New GO is assembled and awaiting installation into WIR. Took me and my 11 year old daughter 40 mins from opening box to placing it in the garden. Minor gripe was poor quality of screws supplied but that's engineering to a price I suppose. BTW when do GO owners get an icon!!
sallyj
Run is now finished Just need to get the cube ready to go into the run. The girls are already in there sratching away My OH is feeling very pleased with himself and said that he is available for hire to put up WIR's especially to 6 foot blondes Pictures to follow. Of the run not OH and blonde

Plum
I'm amazed how quick these runs get built. Pictures
sallyj
I haven't forgot about photos. Been busy entertaining family today As it has been raining alot this morning we have noticed that the roof on the run is leaking in several places . Their dust bath has now turned into a swimming pool . I'll have to be nice to OH again to see if he can sort it out. Photos to follow
docsquid
The Aviaries4u runs do look very nice on their web site. What size did you get for a cube? Did you have the big doors so the cube can go in and out? And do you have a magic formula for persuading the dear OH that the chooks really deserve a permanent home? Janty
My husband actually suggested getting another run built. I think he must be ill.
sallyj
Docsquid The run is 12x9 feet and Aviaries4u made an extra wide door of 4' 6" so I can easily remove the cube for cleaning. I also have the standard size door for me to get in and out which is inward opening to help stop escapees and it is also a 'stable' door so I can just open the top half to throw in any treats or lean on it for a chat with the girls . Aviaries 4u also made an egg port and a poo tray removal port so I can access these withou going into the run which works really well OH enjoyed the project of putting the run together but unfortunately he doesn't feel the same as me about it . He says it dominates the garden but as he is digging up the patio at the bottom of the garden for more vegetables and a big greenhouse, then I suppose we both have to compromise
docsquid
Ooh, the Aviaries4u runs look so nice! DH didn't completely rule it out. He was perturbed at the thought of ditching the Cube run after such a short time, but did mention the possibility of measuring the area out and talking to the neighbour against whose fence it would sit. The other option is just to build a proper base for the Cube and run, but I'd feel happier with a sturdy run that I can get into, particularly if we are going to have 3 more chickens in due course (that was always the plan). sallyj
docsquid You don't have to ditch your cube run, you can use it for introductions of more hens
