beckyfitz
My poor Louis has just escaped a fox attack. He's actually a duck but thought I would post here as there may be more experience of this with chickens & am hoping they are much the same. They were out in the garden free ranging, enjoying the rain when my neighbour rang me to tell me a fox had got it. I ran out & louis came flapping down out of the bushes. His legs & wings are fine & he can turn his head & neck ok, nothing looks out of place apart from a small amount of blood on his neck. I have just cleaned & refreshed all their water bowls & bedding & put them in their run, & he has gone straight into the house. I'm not sure whether I should try to get hold of him & look at his wound as they don't like being handled & I don't want to traumatise him any more today. I was going to leave him to rest in safety & see how he is tomorrow & maybe a trip to the vet is in order? He is no stranger to the vet as he had a broken leg treated earlier in the year I'm just worried he is in shock & won't make it to morning. The fox had him round the neck apparently though it doesn't seem to have done much damage. Any advice on what to do would be greatly appreciated. Thanks x
Patricia W
Phew - sounds like a lucky escape! Is it worth bringing him in the house so he can be warm ( good for shock) and so you can monitor him? Tricia
beckyfitz
I thought about bringing him in but have nothing to put him in apart from the vet box & he doesn't like being away from Harry so would have to bring them both in.
