Fox attack - shock - should I bring him in? *update* :-(

Recommended Posts

poor Louis has just sirvived a fox attack. My neighnour rang me & we frigthened off the fox, Louis seems Ok apart from small amount of blood on his neck. Wings, legs & neck all semm fine though obviously shaken. I don't know whether I should bring him indoors tonight to keep him warm? I would have to bring them both in as they don't like being apart & I've no idea where I'd put them!

If he's ok I'll probably take him to the vets tomorrow for a check.

Poor Loius - think I'll have to rename him 'Lucky' - it was him who suffered a broken leg earlier in the year!

Poor Louis!! - and certainly lucky by the sounds of it.

If you have anywhere at all where you could put both ducks overnight it might be a good idea to keep them in. A big cardboard box in the garage/shed/kitchen?

If not then at least he has Harry to keep him company - have a look in the morning and have him checked over by the Vet if you're at all worried.

Oh what a shame, yes keep them together as long as the other leaves any wounds alone.

Together to stop stress, keep as normal as possible. As long as their bedding is nice and clean and dry best to keep it all familiar surroundings etc

But hopefully you got their just in time, I had a duckling once completely lost top of his head and neck(could see tendons etc) he lived! I knew which one it was for a while as it had a big dent in its head! Crow attack

I thought mucky old water would infect the wounds but he survived fine

Fingers crossed will be ok, fox will be back again (ours come out in daytime too even when we are around)

Good luck indie :)

Sadly, Louis did not make it through the night

He (or she actually as was laying) stayed in with Harry but did not wake up.

Boys & I are devastated, we raised them from eggs. We had a funeral & laid a stone for her.

Now poor Harry is alone. I have accompanied him on his 'free roaming today & he was ok then, had a good dibble & swim.

I now think he is a male despite not having a curly tail. He is not laying while Louis had been for about a fortnight, is slightly bigger than Louis & had a slightly puffier face? He is very vocal which originally made us think he was female but now think it could be a drake call.

So now I don't know what to do - will he be OK alone? He lives right next door to the chickens & they free-roam together although occasionally the chickens chase him.

If its best to find him another partner, how will he take it? I've heard drakes can be quite rough.

Also, I've no idea where I'd get another from as we live in a London suburb, & these were the result of eggs we hatched at Nursery School.

I have suggested re-homing Harry to a local farm but my son is horrified at the thought of losing them both.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

So sorry to hear that Louis didn't make it :(

I don't know what to suggest about having another to keep Harry company :? We had a drake who was happy with one duck but when we had others he focussed all his attention on just one and made her life hell - he had to go.

my black east indian went missing in the snow leaving my poor khaki campbell alone  she was so stressed we went and got him a new pal straigtht away the new duck settled down straight away with just a bit of pecking!!!!!!! But that was with a female not a drake
