Kids board - how much do you charge?

Recommended Posts

Mine is 20 and works full time & has a good wage for his age.

I am a real softie and would not charge but OH thinks that he needs to understand the value of money and learn to pay bills etc - which I understand.

I was just curious to know what other people do!

You don`t look old enough for him to be 20! But I feel a bit better knowing he is 20 as I had a mini Phwor moment when I met him on Saturday! :anxious: A woman of my age!!!!:oops:

:lol::lol::lol::lol:

I can't believe you have a 20 year old either!

One of my friends pays £70 a week all in

Perhaps a different way of looking at it would be to say something along the lines of 'the council tax is X amount, the Sky TV is X amount of how about you cover those bills?'

If I left him to pay any bills we would get cut off

15 years ago when I was living at home with my folks I had to pay £100 per month bed and board, do all my own washing and ironing and contribute to the housework. I didn't last long back at home which is what I think my parents were hoping

Lol that made me laugh. My son is 20 and pays £70 (+£10 for his virgin box) a month and my daughter 18 £30 a month as she is still in part time college but works alot too.

At the moment we need the income but really its more for them to realise they need to pay to live and give them some idea of what living alone costs. My oldest 23 next month was at uni but again working alot and paid a bit but is now in Australia and when talking on phone the other day she says she told her brother and sister to never leave home  as they don't know how easy they get it

I don't do there washing unless they bring it downstairs and ask me to keep an eye on it if they are going out, i certainly don't do their ironing either . i work full time and hardly get time to do my own!

Obviously I don't charge my DS who's 15 years old but YD who's 23 & earns more than her dad pays me £200 a month and it was her choice

I had actually asked her for £120 but as she had shared a flat with friends for 18 months she knew exactly how expensive it is in the real world & appreciates what she has at home, hence her decision to pay more.

When I was still at home I used to pay about £80 a week (about 15 years ago) that was about 1/3 of my wages I think. I then had a six month spell on the dole and my parents carried me, they never had much money themselves.

When I got back on my feet and found a job I paid £200 / week as payback really. I think my mum felt guilty taking it so I she treated me like a king, fillet steaks every other meal. :D:D:D:dance:

About a year after I ended up working away from home on better money and saved up to buy a house. That was the biggest shock of my life :shock::shock::lol::lol:

Give me the £200/wk fillet steak and full laundry service anyday!

Kev.
