halfsoftware.com - Another dodgy site or OK?

Recommended Posts

After making a complete idiot of myself with bitesizedeals.co.uk - who have said they will refund the money but I am still waiting by the way - I thought I would check with you knowledgeable people out there if this is another dodgy site or are they OK?

The Microsoft Office 2007 prices seem too good to be true?

There are a lot of dodgy sites for computer hardware and software. I haven't come across the one that you are showing. The one we use that does good prices AND is reliable is Ebuyer - their software is legit and their customer care policy is good.

Oops - hit the post button by mistake. Looking at halfsoftware.com web site they don't give any contact phone number, just an online form. To me this instantly seems dodgy. It is also not a British site (probably German). No terms and conditions. No clear returns policy. I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole. It is very likely that any downloaded copies of Office are not properly licensed and you'd have to pay Microsoft to licence them and activate them once you have downloaded.

Very dodgy by the looks of it. The whois search says they are in California, but give a UK telephone number and a Chinese (by the looks of it) street name.

Also, most of the products are download only, I personally would buy a CD, just incase something goes wrong.

I agree with docsquid, Ebuyer has good prices, legit software and excellent customer service.

Trust me to find another naff site - thank you everyone

EVERYONE make mistakes - clever people (like you) learn from them.

Don't beat yourself up over it.

PS - have you seen this (I work in University and they state this on the ITS website)

"We understand that any students attending an Ofsted registered University, college or school (inc. nursery & pre-schools), in the UK are entitled to purchase one copy of a selection of Microsoft products for installation on a home machine. The software is ordered directly from http://www.software4students.co.uk and is a perpetual license at a reduced price that can also be used by their guardians."
