Plum
Got the hacksaw and screwdriver out again today and made a mezzanine for the girls. Eider and Motmot were rather suspicious But gave it the thumbs up Then they showered the other girls underneath by scattering pellets from the cup on them. Why do they do it. Plum
Thanks Chelsea and Sandie. My chooks are fare to well behaved to drop any undesirables on those scatching beneath them. (knickers hadn't thought of that!)

laurmurf
Oh I am loving the loft space living - how very boho! Is it attached on the side and 'dangling' from the roof?
Plum
The side has a couple of pieces of wood wedges between the wire and yes hanging from the roof. Loft living, like that
Egluntyne
Now I know how I can make use of my old wooden roosting bars.
Plum
Inspiration from HEN at Alpaca party. She says a hanging roosting area is resistant to redmite. They can't jump up Egluntyne your worries about redmite are over!!

docsquid
Plum, I have to confess that I've been so impressed with your idea, I made one too! I had some old bits of wood left from a handrail I had fitted to the stairs when my Mum was alive, but have since taken down. It was 1.5 x 1.5 inch timber, so I used the bandsaw to split it into 1.5 x 3/4" and then used that to build a perching rack. I fitted some hooks to each end. On one end I slotted the hooks into the Cube run mesh and hung it from the roof with the other hooks and hung their greens feeder from the Cube high up so they have to use the new bit to get at the broccoli! It will be very easy to unhook for cleaning. I will need to get some better-looking twine as the green garden twine doesn't look very neat. No pictures as it was dark when I finished. Chooks were not impressed and went straight to bed without even looking at it. Hope they appreciate it tomorrow.
Plum
Hey we're going to have to market a range of cube accessories Look forward to your pictures. I used green twine as well. Put some treats up there that will get them interested. Ungrateful girls
docsquid
Here's my version. I daren't open the run to take the picture as the chooks really wanted to escape and I needed to go elsewhere. At least they had the grace to explore it today and even have a peck at the broccoli feeder I'd put up there. It is quite useful when they all decide they need to go in or out of the cube or both at the same time as it provides a chicken-parking space! Plum
Excellent that handrail is well used. Think I may drop mine to make it a parking space as well, good idea Or I could make a lower level onto it Look at your girls, bet you felt mean. I came home at lunchtime and let them have a quick run round and some tuna. They were really put out when I locked them up again

They were really put out when I locked them up again I felt terrible and they complained loud and long. However we were out all day, apart from a brief foray home to get an extra pair of long johns because it was cold! We were building a greenhouse at our wildlife site. Tomorrow they will be spoilt!
