From experience when I used to work near Brize Norton, it usually means that we're going to invade somewhere

That is my experience with aircraft too if they do night contour flights we are about to see action somewhere they were doing some about 3 weeks ago

We have low flying planes all the time here being between RAF Wittering and Cottesmore. It's the night ones which are the most frightening ! We watched a couple of Eurofighters dogfighting in the skies above us one day in the summer. Impressive!

It's exciting watching the planes arriving for the air shows, especially the WW2 ones. I love to see them flying low over the house. A few years ago, the Vulcan was a regular low flying visitor because one of the flight crew had a son at the Boys School and they used to fly low over town and waggle the wings as they went over the school! FAB!!

Col and I were just talking about this just last night - we live in Northamptonshire (nowhere near any RAF bases as far as we know) but last night three jets went over in the space of about 45 mins.

 

Hope you're not right about something about to happen...

We get them fairly regularly but have not noticed any increase in activity - hope that is a good sign. I assume the ones you are seeing/hearing are from the US bases, which would not be surprising given recent announcements.

Its been relatively quiet here and if its starting to kick off anywhere we always know about it. Even the Americans arent causing us much noise even if they are sending out huge amounts of troops I guess they must be going from out there not from here.

With the last conflict, we had loads of transporter planes going over during the night (I guess they were trying not to panic the public), I was working near Brize then and we often wondered when they were going to land on our building, they were THAT close and low!

 

We see lots of planes practising when we are up at Norfolk, there are several bases not too far from the house.
