poachedegg
Ruby our approx 10 yr old rescue dog is poorly again. She had startd to limp a couple of weeks ago, so thought we would try and rest it and see how she gets on....then she went off her food and started looking really depressed and not really venturing from her bed and then last weekend she started doing no 2's in the house.....so Monday we took her to the vets and explained all the above and that she isn't the most active dog anyhow (lounges around most of the day, but at my feet or in the same room as she want s the company). As she is on steroids for her skin problem, the vet explained she would have to come off them to be able to give her pain relief for her limp, but in the mean time would give her something to settle her stomach. Went back Thursday and the vet thinks she may have the onset of arthritis, but to try the painkiller first with a view to further tests. The vet said there should be no side affects of the tablets. Despite getting plenty of toilet time outside, she is still doing no 2's, this morning was sick (so have stopped the tablets) and she is still looking very depressed. She can't go out for walks because of her leg and has no ooomph in her and looks very sad - we will have to take her back to the vets on Monday, but after going last Monday, she was a quivering wreck when she had to go back on Thursday,-. I know "Ooops, word censored!"ody can do anything - just feel really sorry for her and wanted to offload.

chelsea
So sorry to hear Ruby is not herself, poor poppet. Bracken our GSD suffers from arthritis in her hips and we have seen a tremendous improvement in her activity and health since giving her some glucosamine tablets - we order ours online and they are totally natural and include Chondrotin Sulphate, green lipped mussel and minerals. We have combined this with a magnetic collar also. I don't think this weather helps with it being damp/wet all the time either. Hope Ruby improves soon, keep us posted. Seagazer
I'm sorry Ruby is not feeling well. She sounds thoroughly fed up poor thing. I would definitely give the supplements that Chelsea has recommended a go. They might be gentler on her stomach. Its so hard when your pet doesn't feel well and you don't know what to do. Give them a go and I'll keep my fingers crossed that she starts to improve.

poachedegg
Thanks guys - I was feeling a bit down about her yesterday - but onwards and upwards now. She's still in her bed this morning and not wanted her food so might give her some fish or chicken later as a treat to see if that tempts her. Chelsea - I am going to google glucosamine tablets now. poachedegg
Thanks for all your good wishes (and pets too ). Ruby has perked up slightly and is eating a bit now and her accidents in the house seem to have stopped and actually looks a little pleased to see us - she is still limping though, but definitely acting a little more like the Ruby we know and love.....lets hope it continues!
