Difference between a Bovan goldline and a GingerNut Ranger?

Recommended Posts

same thing

There are quite a few names for the common hybrids out there, some 'owned' by certain breeders, some are just distinctive to certain suppliers, some are pretty names to attract buyers eg: Sweetie and some are named to seem different to the others!

Makes for one complicated market place

Hybrids are created by line breeding..................I don't know the full ins and outs but basically something like for example a batch of Rhode Island Reds is inbred. Father to daughters, grandfathers to grand daughters. Like I say I don't know the exact system. Inbreeding produces certain characteristics and will increase the amount of eggs the birds lay, it will of course increase any genetic faults but the breeders know what they are doing. When the birds are inbred to sufficient standard, then they are outcrossed to another inbred line, which in the case you ask about Light Sussex. Outcrossing like that produces what is known as "Hybrid vigour" which in this case produces a bird which lays an awful lot of eggs

The difference will be that Bovans are produced by one lot of breeders and the Ginger Nut by another, so the standards may be slightly different, but basically if that is the cross then they are near enough the same.

Do you understand that? If not I'll try again :D
