Hi guys, I am really worried, as I think my gorgeous Laufie has had a stroke. He is staying with my auntie, and she has taken him to a specialist clinic but I'm really worried and scared that be won't make it. I don't know any more than that.

 

I will update you when I know more.

Some dogs get a condition known as Vestibular Syndrome as they get older. My Henry had it, and I thought he was having a stroke, but it is treatable. So there could be other causes.

I would echo this, they can recover quite well with good nursing and TLC

Hi guys, a quick update for you - the vet said it was a piece of cartalidge that was loose and it hit his spinal chord, making three of his legs useless. They injected him with steroids, and may have to put him to sleep tomorrow if that doesn't work. Apparently it would take him 6 weeks minimum to recover if he isn't pts.

So sorry to hear about Laufie.

 

One of my Labradors twisted his spine which caused him to lose the use of his back legs. He did recover after several weeks and went on to live to a ripe old age.

 

Thinking of you and praying he makes a recovery.

Hi guys thanks for all your concern. Laufie came home yesterday, and three of his lgs are paralysed, although he has an 80% chance of making a full recovery! We have mainly wooden floor downstairs so have had to buy a remnant of carpet so he can make attempts to walk! The good news is that he is able to 'lurch' from treat to treat that we put down, so is already making a good attempt at recovery.

I am so happy, as yesterday, we all thought we were going to have to put him to sleep.
