phillygirl
Foxes took two of my three lovely chooks early this morning. RIP Hilly & Geraldine Now I am faced with what to do with my one remaining lonely girl Philly. Will she cope on her own? I doubt OH will let me have any more (altough I would like to give a couple of ex bats a good home if I can persuade him). Philly is 3 going on 4 now so what would be the best thing for her any suggestions would be welcome!
chick wiggle
Ohhhhh, Im so sorry, how awful for you Poor little Philly, she wont be happy on her own. If you can persuade your OH to let you have some more it would be better for her. Im so sorry this dreadful thing has happened to you, you know it happens to the best of us dont you. I hope you feel better soon {{big hugs}}
phillygirl
Thanks Chick Wiggle it is really sad and upsetting they like members of the family. . Would she accept new Chickens ex bats maybe (OH just home from work seems fairly amenable - at the moment). She was bit of a bully sometimes with the other but not all the time. I just wonder if it would be ok with them as she is a bit older? We live in Wiltshire does anyone know where the nearest ex bat rescue place would be? chick wiggle
As long as you introduce 2 or more they should be fine because she will be outnumbered. Cant help with the chicken places im afraid, live no where near wiltshire. Let us know how you get on

Tutti Frutti
Oh no, that's so sad I hope you're able to get some new girls to keep Philly company soon. BHWT's calendar of rescues is here http://www.bhwt.org.uk/rehomercalendar.php and the contact details are here - I found it best to call them, rather than email http://www.bhwt.org.uk/contacts.php. You'll need to register on their website here http://www.bhwt.org.uk/rehomers.php. HTH

phillygirl
Thanks for all the replies everyone it has helped, it'd horrible to think that they suffered. I will look into ex battery ones I think. Thanks for the advice Chick Wiggle & Tutti Fruitti, I hadn't thought that two would out number her - good idea! She is a nice chicken with character though and she usually lays everyday. I will post again when we have decided. In the meantime Happy Xmas & Happy New Year all!! Guest
do you let your chickens free range full time? If so, the fox WILL be back, especially at thist time of year. If you're going to get more chickens have you re-thought their accommodation?
CluckyBucks
How awful, so sorry for your loss Hopefully you can convince OH to let you get some more chickens, she will be lonely on her own otherwise. Hope everything works out for you. xx xx
phillygirl
Thanks everyone. Have looked at getting ex bats but they will not be ready until February that are nearest us. So I will look at getting some locally hopefully she needs company. The run is pretty fox proof we just got blase, we had them for 3 years with no problems at all. Except next doors young cat who took great delight in chasing them round the garden on a regular basis!
