Chickensinthecity
It seems that posting on this forum has started a chain of magical events! I posted about the lack of 'white' in the eggs my 3 hens were laying and wondered whether my 'Chessie' would lay again after being traumatised in a fox attack in September. I was hoping to take a photo of one of the eggs, fried, to show you, but since then..... Every egg has had a 'proper' amount of white, yolks are still a good size but now instead of about 1cm of white around a fried egg there is 2-2.5 cm - i'm not complaining, but i'm not doing anything different either. So I haven't uploaded a fried egg! It appears that Chessie has started laying - her wattles and comb are nice and red and a couple of times recently i've had 3 eggs instead of the usual 1 or 2. But saving the best till last,. Yesterday I collected 1 egg (which was still warm and slightly wet) at 8.00 am. I put it in a new egg box in the fridge. At 4.00 pm I collected a further 3 eggs- how can this be possible, i've only got 3 hens? I've read that it takes 25 hours to make an egg. All of the eggs are a good size, between 60-63g. The only unusual thing is that one egg has a small hole in the top where the shell has been pushed in, but not removed. The membrane etc is intact, not leaking. Is this a sign of egg pecking? i've put a picture of it here: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=542199&l=eb0b005217&id=1647414449 I know it shouldn't be possible to lay 2 eggs in a day, but it seems it is! Thoughts please!
Valkyrie
When our buff started she managed 2 a day sometimes - I think it happens until they get themselves sorted.
mostin
Sometimes my girls "hold on" to one over night and lay it first thing the next morning, and then lay another one that day .
