Popcorn
We are having terrible Thunder and Lightning tonight. I hope my little chookies will be ok.......I wonder if my hubby would mind if we all snuggled up together....oh dear...how am I ever going to sleep
Sheilaz
I'm sure the chickens will think nothing of it, they'll be fine in the Eglu. But what shall we do with you, my dear? I think you've solved it by coming on the forum! Its horrid to lie there not sleeping. Much better to do something & then try again, & what better than a quick catch up here. You could always read some of my old postings, you'll soon nod off! No sign of a storm here, can I have yours?
Mel (& Paul)
We had a huge thunderstorm at 4.30 this morning - right overhead - the windows were rattling!! Unfortunately our Charlie is a big girls blouse when it comes to thunder so we ended up with all three woggles in our bedroom! I love thunderstroms - but the woggles dont
Popcorn
It was a really bad one here too Mel. Right over our house. The thunder was so loud we could feel the vibrations in the bed I was so worried about my little chookies, but they are fine this morning....waiting to see if they lay...... It was better for me to get out of bed Sheila and occupy my mind a bit. I did fall to sleep pretty easily after I'd got back in. Yor postings did the trick
SarahJo
Hope the chooks are ok after a noisy night ... in the past, mine have not been affected, and still laid the next day. Woggles in the bed ..... reminds me of our Staffie x , she hated fireworks/thunder, and used to dive for cover too. .
Mrs Frugal
We had torrential rain in the night. The open porch flooded again! The girls run is a bit soggy this morning but they're spoilt rotten and have a big Ikea parasol to keep a dry area for them to dustbathe in ! Popcorn
Awww....that's good Kate. It was all I could do to stop myself from getting soaked by going out and putting the cover over the run at 2am. The rain was so bad and thunder so scary, it would have been a silly thing to do Chookies are munching away on the bugs that have come up with the rain though, so they're happy
Leigh
We have got the rain and storms coming today. Its alot cooler out there today. Luckily, I purchased the winter cover without Hubs knowing so chickens I hope are going to be okay today.... Not nice for their first full day in a new home though
Popcorn
Good thinking Leigh! The winter cover is excellent and your chooks will look much more cosy in the run if it does rain. You almost want to get in there with them
KateB
We had a bad storm last night too and again this morning. Neither chooks have laid today but I can't blame them - think they might need to come in and have a dry off and warm up before OH gets home though... or would that just be too naughty as I did promise that they wouldn't come inside once we'd got them.... They just look so pathetic, like little drowned rats!
Trish
No storms here, rain over night and glorious sunshine either side, sorry, but not much
Popcorn
Lucky you Trish My chooks were unaffected by the storm, (I think I was more scared) and we've has eggs from them both. I must say though, the winter shade is excellent and has kept them dry and warm throughout. Sun is out today Trish - hurray
Mel (& Paul)
I think the thunder and lightning was a positive thing - Margot finally laid her first egg on Friday morning
motherhen
Perhaps all those omleteers waiting for the first egg could try that. Lock hens in eglu. Put hose on eglu to imitate rain. Intermittantly shine very bright light through ventilation holes. Take metal dustbin and bang with lump hammer. Then turn round and realise neighbours have witnessed the whole thing Next morning collect first egg
AnnieP
Its similar to showing them the roasting pan isn't it??
Popcorn
I think all our neighbours probably think we're mad anyway with the things we get up to with our hens Jane - one more thing won't hurt will it
