Leicester_H
As some of you know, I lost one of my pair of hens and got 2 new ones to keep Boo company(way back in August) - but she didn't take to them (http://club.omlet.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=51732&sid=75cd274851c1d6ec0e55f91c27d4e12d) Recently, when free ranging, Boo has been going around a bit more with Lily&Smokey rather than just doing her own thing. So I decided that while I was home (over the Christmas break) to supervise, I'd try mixing them again. So on the day before Christmas Eve, I put them all in together (in the new girls run as I though they'd be more comfortable there) Christmas Eve, Boo back to her old ways - guarding the food, water etc. Too much pecking. So back to seperate runs. BUT on Christmas Day, I had 2 treat bowls ready (Christmas dried meal worm specials!) to lure them back into their respective runs, but all 3 meandered into Boo's run. They seemed OK, so I quietly closed the run door. They went to bed together, Lily in the nest box, Boo & Smokey perching on the edge of the box ! A VERY lovely sight (will post picture soon) The yesterday, there were a few disciplinary pecks but nothing much. Last night, same nice bedtime routine. So finally, they are merged ! I don't think they would have merged any earlier. Just shows, some hens take a VERY long time to forget old friendships and move on. (So now I have an empty (brand new) eglu and run - what to do with it ?! - whats a girl to do ??!!) Thanks for all your support, H

Leicester_H
Yes - it was our own little Christmas 'miracle'!! how about converting it into a chick coop and have some babies ??? I work full time so I don't think babies is an option. I'm toying with 3 new chooks or 3 ex-bats - but will (probably) wait until spring in either case. (I've heard the Eglu police come round if you leave an eglu empty for too long!!) h
