patsylabrador
I was disappointed with this adaptation. The story is so deep, subtle and scary it didn't need all the Dr Who monster voices or dramatic music telling you when to be scared. Think I need to read the book again to get the TV version out of my mind.
Ain't Nobody Here
I'd never seen or read it before and watched it this morning (at 2.3am as I couldn't sleep ). I had to watch Clive James for a while before going back to bed .
Cinnamon
I thought the girl in the lead role looked like Jimmy Carr. Couldn't take it seriously after that
patsylabrador
I wondered what bothered me about that actress, now you've pointed it out I keep laughing to myself. That's really very funny.

debbier
My hubby and I had a disagreement as to whether she was bonkers or the ghosts were real. I thought she was stark staring bonkers, but that was just my interpretation of the tv thing. I hadn't read/seen it before, though do remember an old Kate Bush song which I'm sure was based on it (is that obscure or what??).
Chunky_Monkey
I really enjoyed it, but it wasn't as scary as I thought it would have been. There were a few creepy moments though. I hadn't read/seen it before, though do remember an old Kate Bush song which I'm sure was based on it (is that obscure or what??). Isn't that Wuthering Heights? Or am I getting that totally wrong? EDIT: My bad, just looked it up and there is! Oops. Edited December 31, 2009 by Guest

Alis girls
Did you see the 1999 one with Jodhi may and Pam ferris set earlier possibly Vicotrian times much better, scarier and less er bedroom action!! I was watching with ES 14 as I'd said it was a good story but I couldnt remember half of this in the other. The other was more menacing as well and I dont remember girl being pregnant or the others abused by the baddie. I also called OH to see Dr as he looks like an actor who was around in the 80's but couldnt find a cast list to google. I was disappointed too. ES is into "spook" esp after he enjoyed the Triffids the previous 2 nights. Again I wasnt too taken with it. has anyone read the Turn of the screw book > I am going to try and get it in the library. patsylabrador
I did see that version and it was excellent. I think this year was typical BBC dumbing down. As for the ' bedroom scenes', apparently the child actors weren't allowed to see the final screening, so it would be nice if the BBC could give parents bit of a heads up. This is clearly a programme that families are going to settle down to watch together. My mum always seemed to have a duster at hand and would be there busily dusting the TV at crucial moments. These days she would be utterly worn out. The book is a good read, I can't find my copy so I shall use my amazon token for that I think. Alis girls
Yes you'd have the cleanest telly screen in the UK PL Very disappointed in BBC - it couldve been better done and stick to book. I hate it when they digress!!
