2 new girls

Recommended Posts

hi, I already have 1 Pepperpot and 1 Gingernut. Just bought a Maran and an Orpington to make it a lovely foursome. What should I do to introduce them? So far I'v put the 2 new girls in the eglu run and my 2 original girls are free ranging. The Orpington is having a bit of a go at the Maran (pecking her neck and pulled a couple of feathers) and Gingernut has tried with both of them through the run bars.

Whats best to do?

Thanks

If you only have the eglu then seperate the run into two area with lots of garden canes across the middle. You can have a cat box as a seperate sleeping areas but they are probably alright at night. I'll see if I can find the photo of someone's run. :D

Best to take it slowly as they get used to each other.

Just a quick update.

I'v just been out (1800hrs) to have a quick check on how they are all getting on and Gingernut and my new Orpington are cuddled up in the nesting box and Pepperpot and my new Maran are cuddled up on the roosting bars. There hasn't really been much fighting this afternoon and I even tried them in the run together. Definatley seems as though my new Maran is going to be at the top of the pecking order. I'll keep you updated on their progress.

Sounds promising :D Just make sure your up early in the morning to watch for any fights. When they are roosting at night they will be all calm and cuddle up but when daylight comes... well... just keep an eye on them. Introducing 2 new to 2 old shouldnt be too bad as no one chook is singled out, so fingers crossed.

Let us know how they get on.

:D

Morning,

Just to let you know, I went out this morning and they all semm really good together. Still the odd argument, mainly over food but everyone is getting on. I'v left them too it in the run and I'm keeping an eye on them from the house.

Thank you for you advice and assurances.
