miffy
I'm not sure what to do. Primrose is alone now, and does seem lonely. I have delayed getting any new girls because of the extreme weather worried about young ones out in this weather. Looking at Primrose I'm not sure I have made the right decision. There are also the practical problems like how to get to anywhere to collect them at the moment and this weather may continue for another week. Should I just wait or go and get new girls . Lewis
If you're planning on getting new hens, I'd say now would be good if you could. She might be quite lonely, but also cold on her own There is also the practical side though, as you said ... would you keep the new hens with her straight away, or integrated with her? Could you bring her into a garage/shed overnight to keep her warm?
chick wiggle
I would say get them now if you possibly can, as she will be lonely. But you should still keep them seperate for a week to be on the safe side just in case they bring anything nasty with them. Could you just seperate them with some netting so they can all see each other? So, if poss, bring Primsrose in on a night to keep her warm, then after a week let them in together. As there a 2 new ones to 1 old one there shouldnt be too much of a problem.
miffy
thanks for your thoughts. Will speak to MiL later to get her thoughts as Primrose is hers. Just need to source some chickens locally now so we dont have to travel too far. Might try St Eunys http://www.layinghensandpoultryhousescornwall.co.uk/ as they are our nearest.
